Wasn't the 320$ using the Guitar Centre (?) 20% discount time-limited-gift-card-coupon-thingy?
I haven't seen anything cheaper than 399 dollares.

With the price they are being advertised for in Australia, it is cheaper to buy 2 and import them.

gray imports never are under warranty if you didn´t buy the stuff locally. of course you have the right to send a defective item back to the country you bought it. but that´s non-economic to pay the shipping rate for the return. that´s the reason why it´s better to avoid gray imports, especially with todays electronics (made in china).Rave wrote:Is the APC still under warranty abroad?
btw, what is the msrp for an apc40 in australia ?
Re: Cheapest APC40 online - with international shipping
The cheapest I have found is $999Aus = $775 USD approx (OK, so not quite as cheap to buy 2 )

Re: Cheapest APC40 online - with international shipping
geez, that´s insane. and i thought the european MSRP amounting to €499 is high ...
ok, then i would think twice to import an apc40 by myself. have a look what the customs dues + vat for that specific item type are before you import by yourself -> also ask your customs officer if the shipping rate is customable in that case, if so the whole import thing could shoot the initial "cheap" us american retail price down. does anyone know what the average income in australia is?
is the vat in australia that high? or are the wholesalers over there just sharks?

I've found it for $949 now, but still too pricey.
I think under $1000 doesn't incur import duties (I've not long been in Aus so I may be wrong on this).

Easy there Tiger. "Never" is a mighty powerful word.
And I don't believe you are entirely correct. I'm of the understanding that a manufacturers warranty will kick in wherever you are (unless something otherwise has been clearly stated by the manufacturers) - You'll just send it to the nearest service centre. Of course, if you could have bought the unit from a shop, somewhere closer, you could just go through them.
I have bought mass-produced products from all over the world, and was *never* told I *had* to send it back to the retailer for repair.
Also, if an international retailer is selling directly to you, and you receive a faulty product - the onus is absolutely on them to cover postage charges for returning it, fact - I know from experience. Again - this is unless they said otherwise from the get-go.
With all that being said, (european) retailers like thomann.de offer great incentive to 'buy local' by offering extended warranties...even longer than the manufacturer's warranty. 3yrs!
for example, elektron only offer a 1yr manufacturer's warranty - so if you buy direct from them, that's all you get - after that you pay. Or if you bought from thomann.de, an authorised dealer and "friend of elektron", you get an extra two years coverage for the same (if not a little cheaper) price. and free delivery of course.

sorry, maybe i should have wrote that i´m speaking for germany here. can´t speak for other rules. you have to confide to the the goodwill of a company. i for sure know that e.g. edirol, yamaha, rme and many more will not cover it under warranty in germany. the service center will fo sure repair it, but you have to bear the costs for the repair. en clair: no warranty coverage then. and for akai germany i would assume the same what i´ve stated above. germans work to rule ...

*shrug*
APC looks like a nice DJ device for me, I'd like one...but, not for 444 euro.
I'll be scouting for used ones, or waiting for a friend to pass through USA.
Oh ya, and I'll have to let the early-adopters find all the faults first of course
Personally think it's ridiculous for a company making musical instruments to renege on their warranty because you want to use it in another country. Half of the products are designed for 'easy portability', touring musicians, etc etc.

I preordered mine from Novamusik.com for $369 but that was back in January and am not sure if that price is still available at this date. You have to contact them.
Also I am not sure about international shipping. You may want to be at your SF address for delivery of this one.
