Modular synth analog sequencer plug-in?

Post by Leon Tricker » Fri May 22, 2009 6:19 pm

Is anyone aware of a plug-in that replicates the function of a sequencer in a modular synth, where the pitch and velocity of each note in the sequence can be set by the dials/sliders on the module?

I have set up a series of eight Operators on eight seperate tracks, with each one triggeing note C3 at a different point in a 2 bar loop. Using Live's velocity, note length and pitch MIDI devices I can use a midi controller to do what I want. But it's obviously processor intensive to have 8 instances of Operator for just a 8 step bass line!

Hope I've explained what I mean clearly enough :D

Cheers guys.

Are you running a Mac? If so, you may want to look at Numerology. Not a plugin per se, as it runs through Rewire to Live.

There's probably something out there for Windows as well, but I wouldn't know.

I though volta was for controlling outboard cv synths.

Ok!

I know of 1 step sequencer plugin, it's called sugarbytes ERA. I don't know if it does slides on the pitch.

A 1 step sequencer... that's useful

Also, you could do this with just one instance of Operator by putting the effects in a MIDI effect rack, 1 chain for each step, and then automating the chain selector.

funny - finding work-arounds to recreate primitive hardware

you dont like piano rolls?

actually this kind of think would be easily put together in max/max4Live i think..

Check out AMB's Atomic, 16 step sequencer vst that can output midi to any track and/or cc's.

the tools have just as much to offer as the user does. the user affects the tools of course, but the tools affect the user. sometimes we have a preference for the tools we use despite whether the tools is 'cutting edge' or 'primitive' or not.
It was as if someone shook up a 6 foot can of blood soda and suddenly popped the top.

Instead of using 8 seperate tracks, set up an instrument rack with 8 seperate racks of the midi effects. Followed by 1 instance of operator

sure, i just mean this goes again supposition that live is a more highly evolved and flexible tool, but it cant easily do this one thing the way old simple hardware could.

ok, maybe we should stop talking about our tools.
