im used to it now. it makes more sence. its easier to get your timing right when you take a track and change the drum pattern.

I warped some stuff in Live 7 yesterday. looking back the old method was lame. time is the constant, it's the audio that changes. the new way is much better. plus you can drop a warp marker anywhere you want and hit ctrl-4 to turn off the grid.

I never used warp in Live 7 except, maybe, the few times I dropped in audio for learning purposes. With Live 8 warp, I find myself more and more dropping in loops I recorded and either tweaking them or practicing with the correction side of warping. Personally, I see 8's warp as an advancement.

I love the new method, and consequently use it a lot more in Live 8 than I did in 7. I especially like the fact that you have special markers waiting to be activated for slicing to transients. After watching the excellent video that was posted here recently on how to use the new warping method, I've gotten pretty quick with it.

I still don't like some aspects of it. As the automatic warper marker function isn't very exact, I always have to set my markers myself. I used to drag the marker with the mouse in order to get the right point (zero crossing), right now I have to double click and if that's a bit off, delete and try again. Pain.

The new workflow definitely makes more sense as the time isn't warped but the sample, but setting exact warp markers was way better before.

I assume you mean zero crossings at the beginning and end of loops. you don't need to find zero crossings, Live fades clips' start and end points. get sloppy with it and see if you've been too picky with it. I warp to what swing sounds good, not for zero crossings.

if you can make a loop that clicks because you didn't find the zero crossings, please post a .als.

It's a fine, fine thing. I didnt like it to start with then I realised I was just whining about change.

I'm right on board now.

The oddest thing about the old way was that moving two warp markers closer together was stretching the audio, not very logical. No one likes learn new habits but in this case I'm really glad Ableton ripped the whole thing apart and redid it.

Beats mode sounds better too with the new options.
