HELP ME GET A NICE "TELEPHONE" STYLE VOCAL EFFECT....... !

Post by lolalola » Mon May 25, 2009 1:57 pm

Hi-

Am looking to get a 'telephone' style vocal effect, if that makes sense. I can't think of a specific song as an example, so I'll try to explain some!
Kind of as if the vocal is being sang over a telephone line in 1978.... That kind of slightly-muffled, distant sound to it. I don't want the vocal to be too muffled though... Any ideas? Is it an EQ thing?

ohh, got it - well, I was actually thinking something already
in Live so I didn't have to pay an extra $150 on a plug-in!

The telephony system frequency response is something like 250 - 5000 Hz, so just use EQ8.
You could add the vinyl distortion for a little noise if you like.

On the "Voxformer" Plugin (which is amazing btw) there is a preset called "Telephone" which works pretty good. Try the demo!

Glad i could help :D

Voxformer is amazing, i really like it on vocals but you can try it on Bass or synths as well.
Voxengos support is really great btw. Make sure to check out their other stuff as well.
Elephant is my Limiter Nr.1. Really vesatile but comes with nice presets from where you can tweak further to taste.

Seems like you found your solution, but you really don't need a specific plugin. As arachnaut said, EQ8 (with band 1 & 4 set to Low and High Cut - move to taste) and Overdrive (if you want to add some grit) will do the job nicely.
