How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
Here's the deal, I know you can do it for clips...but I want to be able to do it for FX. So anyone know how I can make FX on/off trigger (so it turns on when i press and hold and turns off when i lift my finger)
Basically note on turns on the FX and note off turns it off. I have seen other people do this and have tried everything. Any ideas?
Cheers,
Kevin

Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
unless you can change the buttons to 'momentary' on your controller, then no, Live can't change button behavior, but there's a fairly simple workaround.
using a reverb effect as an example:
- add a Gate followed a Reverb (set to 100% wet) to the desired track. group them into a rack
- open the rack's chain view and right-click > Create Chain. you now have a wet fx chain and a dry chain
- create a midi track with a Simpler and use the 'digital sine' preset
- set its monitor to 'in' and turn the Track Activator switch off
- in the Gate, set the sidechain to receive from 'digital sine'. set the threshold, attack, hold, and release to the lowest setting.
now play the audio with the reverb fx rack on it.
press a midi key/button to turn the effect on, release the key to turn it off.

an als/alg is allways welcome
Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
There is a guy doing this on the akai website www.apc40.com
Check out the video by Stephan Vankov.
I just got an APC-40 and the buttons just send note on/off like any other controller. I don't think that he is using your work around. It sounds like he is triggering beatrepeats and glitch effects.

HI djlegere,
I just read thru this thread and you do pose a valid question, that is a basic hang up when I have tried to get fluid control of Live with some of my MIDI controllers. The lack of momentary switching on the host side is sometimes problematic.
I setup a simple Bome's Translator to 'convert' a "C3" on my MIDI controller to a Momentary type CC64 that I am then sending to Live.
If you are interested, and you have Bome's MIDI Translator, I would be happy to send you the File for Bome's.
I am using Bome's for OSX and I am really happy to be starting to be able to make my gear do what I want it to do. It could be the desire for control in one's life... but what the heck, I worked hard to be able to own this stuff so it Should do what I want it to do, not the other way around!

Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
my guess is that max4live is going to make this possible on the software end (also, in that akai video the guy is clearly using max4live).
But until then it's all about bomes midi translator.

i reckon you could do it with dummy clipsdjlegere wrote:Here's the deal, I know you can do it for clips...but I want to be able to do it for FX. So anyone know how I can make FX on/off trigger (so it turns on when i press and hold and turns off when i lift my finger)

Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
Dummy clips don't work in this scenario because they have to be quantized.
I have Bome's but I want a better work around because it introduces latency which sucks for performing.
I guess I will have to wait for max for live...

i was able to get the effect but only quanized, yesdjlegere wrote:Dummy clips don't work in this scenario because they have to be quantized.

Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
annoying. Ive been wanting to do this too. Want to set up so that note on sends 0db from a track and note off returns it to -inf
Moldover can do it without any latency!

Re: How can I make my buttons triggers instead of toggles?
Actually I asked him about latency once and he told me that he Does have it. He just compensates for it (like we all have to) and has obviously practiced a whole lot because his cuts are super quick.Bierman wrote:annoying. Ive been wanting to do this too. Pretty sure he is using Bomes as well.

Midi notes: Toggles
Midi CCs: triggers
Make sure your midi-controller sends a CC and not a note.
No max for live or dummyclip required here.
