[Electronica] Loud and funny

Post by som » Fri Jun 05, 2009 9:34 pm

My track of this week is a little bit different. But judge yourself...

A question to all listeners: I tried to use a more complex kick layout than the boring 4x4 in the second part of track (underneath the electric guitar). I'm not quite sure if this works. The more traditional beginning with the proven simple layout seems to have more energy...

Have fun...

Sometimes being a little different is nice. I think it has plenty of energy. Nice song. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you. This kind of energy was my overall target while working on the track. Cutting the dance floor to tiny little pieces.

Well done som! Though dance tracks aren't normally my cuppa, you've got an imaginative approach that keeps the sound palette fresh and makes things interesting.

For me the 4-to-the-floor part has more energy. I like the idea of the variation but IMO the kick becomes too busy. A few less kick hits might have made it work better for me. Nice sounds in the track 'tho.

think i liked it best with the simple kick line.. try losing kicks instead of adding them ? keep it minimal

That's hard to tell, both work well in my opinion.
May be you can try a more tribal pattern if you want a variation.

Like for example for the kick (H = high volume, L = low volume, - = no kick):
H-LLH-LLH-LLHLLL
this way it's still a 4x4.

Just throwing an idea ;)

*Edit*
I just opened myself an account on soundcloud and uploaded an example:

Hi guys,

first I want to thank you all for your kind feedback. This is what keeps us all motivated. I uploaded a revised version on my soundcloud account (see above). I left the original version there, if someone wants to compare. The new version is named "Silent Emission (2nd version)".

The following things have beend changed:

1. The level of the bass has been lifted a bit and the sub bass has been distorted a little bit to get more audible in my car stereo.
2. The bass line adds some more 1/32 notes in the second part to intensify the movement.
3. The guitar line part has been revised. I added lots of filter movements (wahwah and envelope following filters), several amplifier collapses and tremolo at several places. The guitar is a lot more lively, although it doesn't resemble real guitar play. I cannot play guitar *sigh*
4. I left the dubstep type kick line after the breakdown but changed to the simple 4x4 pattern at the beginning of the guitar part. I tested a tribal kick drum, but it sounds not right for this kind of music. But I will use this idea in another track (@DavidB: Thanks for that).

So, for me, the track is finished. Have fun...

som, I'm not into dance stuff, but this was easy for me to listen to. The slow part in the middle kindof got a bit free-form and lost me for a while but once music kicked back in. For lack of a better term - the sweeping toothbrush sounds were cool, and I liked the snare sound.

(for Silent Emission) I find the introducing with those "door sound" really interresting. I'm not a total fan, but I think it's a great way, you should keeping develop it. Actually I feel like hearing a film sound track sometimes. I like this style it changes and gives me good ideas ! Thanks

Very cool track.
There is plenty of energy in the track and the arrangement kept me interested throughout.
The screeching guitar was a surprise but it works very well.

Thanks for sharing.
