Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
Re: Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
@ MJS hey, hey just wondering... Indeed are pioneer mixers (all of them) to me are a disease like hiv far to many have... and yes i love rodec, i know they have an utterly old design, no efx, no midi, no firlefanz... but take ANY club system in the world not running a rodec or formula sound, connect and compare what you will hear now, i promise you your jaw will drop onto the floor and you want get it up for the next 2 hours...
and not to hijack this thread... I am not surprised traktor becomes fast very poular under laptop DJs... It's simply great i think...
Peace.

The only standard for DJing is to get inside of your audience's head. Everything else is a distraction from this goal.
yup it was all cyber sarcasm apparently maturity isnt somthing that is latched onto your age but egotism and ignorance of people younger than yourself generally is.
sorry to vent here

Re: Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
Nothing as far as I'm aware, the IDJ2 is really quite gimicky and to be honest I don't even think Traktor on it's own is a complete DJ solution. (It's good and I use it but there are things it can't do and I use Live for). Hardware wise you are best off with a good mixer!!starving student wrote:what's comparable with traktor in the feature area but that is a hardware solution, like those ipod thingys do they have as many features as traktor anybody got one of those like the idj2?

I'm just starting to mess with traktor but to be honest the computer is getting in my way but I'm trying to get over that, when I working in Live the computer doesn't bother me at all

Re: Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
I had those same issues with Traktor when I started using it and I still do have moments when I wonder if it's worth it but for looping on the fly and some of the effects theres not much I find as simple and rewarding, I have recently aquired a Pioneer DJM800 which is midi assignabe taking a lot of the laptop intrusion out of the way, I have also used a faderfox controller for both Live and Traktor and found it really usefull. I think the main thing to do it try everything you can until you find a combo that fits your style, I can be an effects freak when I mix and I do work with a lot of loops so I find the Live/Traktor through a mixer and using a controller for launching etc works best for me even though the guy I DJ along side feels like it's overkill?

I have the traktor 1 licence.. Maybe 2 also, collecting dust somewhere..drewbixcube wrote:Double click on a clip, enter MIDI map mode, and assign MIDI control to Loop, Position "Set", and Length "Set". The downside to this method is that the mappings are global, meaning they apply to all clips. Therefore, with this method, it is impossible to loop one track while another track is playing (i.e. they'll both loop). Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be much interest in changing this behavior: http://forum.ableton.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=108117ajargy wrote:I just got Ableton Live 8 about a month ago and I'm curious - Is there any way to create loops on the fly in Live? I haven't been able to figure this out yet...
With some clever audio/MIDI routing, you can set up an audio track for each of your "decks" within Live to handle all your looping desires, though your sets can end up quite cluttered. But that's another topic...
Using Traktor for DJing has been a pleasure. No convoluted workarounds... easy setup... Traktor handles DJing functions quite well. It's MIDI capabilities far surpass any software I have ever used, even Live. Of course, I haven't tried Serato yet... maybe I'll give Itch a try.
Can you lock eq settings to each song now? That would be so sweet for demos. just like Tracktion since v.1. T can actually add vsts to clips!
oh Jules, why did you drop out after V.1!!!!!!! Its your baby, man!!!!!

you'd think Live would have bionic looping on fly by now, Live 9 methinksMinimal Justice System wrote:I had those same issues with Traktor when I started using it and I still do have moments when I wonder if it's worth it but for looping on the fly and some of the effects theres not much I find as simple and rewarding, I have recently aquired a Pioneer DJM800 which is midi assignabe taking a lot of the laptop intrusion out of the way, I have also used a faderfox controller for both Live and Traktor and found it really usefull. I've tried it with a beat repeat and I get so close but it's never quite there, certainly not in a user freindly manner... The Ability to view muliple waveforms would also be a godsend!!starving student wrote:you'd think Live would have bionic looping on fly by now, Live 9 methinks

ummm...you can loop on the fly in Live in the clip view.....you can also setup multiple clips as different loop points and jump between them....live is very DJ friendly.....

nuxnamon wrote: I think traktor still has a long way before it is the standard for djing.. just look at any major club because just like technics, serato is the only DVS thats considered standard in the industry.. Traktor no doubt has the all the bells and whistles hands down.. but until it proves itself in program stability and consistency, Serato will remain the same.. and Serato knows that Traktor indeed has gotten better and is starting to take some of its market share..but don't forget about their plans with Ableton.. I am actually more excited about that collab over the cycling74 partnership.. both are great, but I really want to see what the serato/ableton collab will bring..
Hm, I think you made me change my mind! I do long DJ sets, and im really tired of burning CDs that fill up loads of space. And not to forget printing out names and cues on paper, ugh.
It feel it will take this year plus another one to get where I want with DJing from what we could see from the Serato and Ableton coworking. I only DJ about 6 to 8 times a year, the rest is Live shows. So in other words, there is not a zillion tracks to warp in Traktor. Maybe a 100 new demos each year plus our own stuff. A little price to pay for having fun while DJing, and its on right now!
When I left Vinyl in the 90ties, I did 4 decks. I MISS IT!!!
What do you guys think about the new Stanton controllers? I saw it in Japan, and it looks sweet to me. Felt bit weird to touch tough. I did not get to try it in use.

Selling My Virus TI should get me an APC 40, both Stanton controllers, the Traktor Pro upgrade, Surge, and even maybe Max for Live. Good times!!!

Serato now has 8 decks:

Is Tractor still becoming the standard for djing? Or is it back to its old job of plowing the fields?

Re: Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
whats the point of having 8 decks and a pad controller, why not use live
i must be missing something

Re: Why isTraktor becoming the standard for djing
LIVE: no tempo nudge up/down per channel... And the need to warp makes it a complete FAIL!!!starving student wrote:whats the point of having 8 decks and a pad controller, why not use live
