Paul van Dyk in Oklahoma City - Now with Video!

Post by ethios4 » Tue Jun 09, 2009 4:51 pm

Paul van Dyk is playing in Oklahoma City Monday June 15. Just a heads up for the few forumites this applies to, in case yer interested. Also, my friend is working the visuals for the show, so I'm hoping to be able to get some great video/pics of PVD's Live set from behind to post here.

All of about 2 seconds into that video and I've had enough.

Since I haven't been anywhere that plays tarnce, I will ask instead of assume: do people STILL wave those stupid fucking glowsticks around on strings like the tard in the vid?

Just curious, in case its simply a single moron from Oklahoma misrepresenting the "scene".
15" PB 2.5 Ghz, 4 Gig RAM, 750 GB HD, Live 9 still no cue points or program change messages?!?. Doesn't do shit.

i think that's probably and Okie thing. Not only have I never seen a go-go dancer do that... I've never seen a go-go dancer that fat before. But I guess that's because I live in So Cal where the girls are thin and they all have fake tits. It almost seems like a prerequisite of living in the OC.

So... did he do more than showed in your video? Launching warped full songs on a laptop to do a DJ mix isn't spectacular at all... Did he actually use at least one of the keyboards? How about the second laptop?

I'm not saying that he is faking anything, just curious

True...Launching warped tracks isn't that special, but there's more to it.

I've seen PVD live on probably 100+ occassions and he does riff a bit here and there on the midi keyboards, but he primarily stays put as a "dj" when performing live (with the occasional effects manipulation we see on the vid). Keep in mind, half of the tracks he spins are his - those tracks are the true testament as to his talent!

From what I know, one of the laptops is loaded up with tracks and the other is loaded up with effects - as seems to be typical for a lot of performers who use dual laptop setups. He puts on a great show and while I am not a big fan of trance these days, I never pass up a chance to dance with him!

He did appear to be playing a few melodies on the keyboard at times. Mostly he was just extending builds and breakdowns, messing with the structure, mixing track acapellas against different beats. Nothing groundbreaking or advanced by any means, and yet still a bit more than many ableton sets I've seen.
