don't feel too unhappy, you wouldn't even be included if you had updated today.. the offer is only for new purchases and updates from live lite or LE.
Didn't you get the chance to upgrade everything to the suite for about 349€?
I think everybody got that deal. The 600€ discount.
Suite doesn't really interest me as there are far too many things included that I just wouldn't use and I personally think that Live has become quite overpriced in recent years (especially when compaired with other music software available today), but that subject has been talked about far too many times for it to be gone back into here. Customer loyalty should be rewarded with special offers for faithful users, period.

well, i didn't.. tbh, i'm only really interested in operator (and perhaps max for live in the future) and 200 bucks more than the regular update price wasn't really worth it for me - 200 bucks is much when you're broke. ;) and i'm talking euros here, it clearly was more than 150 dollars more.

my personal feeling is just that those offers for "just normal plain live" users to get single additions are rare.. either nothing or everything is the main target it seems, buy the suite or don't.

ok, i see not many think like i do, and that was the main purpose of this thread. i'll stick to vsts.. or perhaps sometime i get a bargain for operator over at kvr. ;)

Still having trouble seeing the argument though.
If you don't care for the instruments, then why do you care about not getting Sampler?
The upgrade is 99€. For the price of 2 instruments, you can have 5.

I'm either missing something or you guys aren't logged in when you visit the webshop. It'll show prices based on your license.

I agree and EVERY software company offers an update path to the latest version and new Live users are getting that and a free plugin on top! Why not extend the offer to people who already own live and for the term of this promotion, offer Sampler at a reduced cost (say, around half price)? That would feel like a good offer for people who already upgraded to 8. :)

i changed the subject of the thread and substituted "no" with "few".. i think that's more convenient.

+1 for Samplification. That's free and it looks pretty sweet! Can't wait to try it out. I've barely even delved into Sampler yet and I'm looking forward to getting under the hood. Obviously, the Samplification pack was created to give those on the fence about upgrading or buying Sampler a little push, but for those of us that allready have it---NICE! I don't think the Abes go about pricing in a mercenary way. I think Live is fantastic for what you get and I think these guys are doing the math to make sure they can keep a successful business running for us all. It doesn't feel predatory to me at all. ALL of us at some time have bought some things that ended up going on sale just a short time later. That's just life, and life is all about timing, right?

Live is too expensive??? You guys ever buy keyboard workstations. $3000 for 1/10 the power of Live!
I guess you are the same guys that use Ipod mixers and call yourself DJs.

i spend most of my money on music, i own several hardware synths, effects and mixers. but that doesn't really compare anymore, you have to compare other software companies with the abes.
and i see other software companies do what i ask for.

and for your information, i call myself a dj because i own technics sl1210 mk2 and a vestax pcm-05 pro II and started making rap music in the early 90s... so i know what hardware did cost back then.

I took my fatty deal upgrading from 5.5/6 to 7. I saw the discount and called guitar center. They only had one copy of 6 left and 7 was coming out in like a month. I haggled with them and told em once 7 came out that a copy of 6 would be a thorn in their side. I forgot how cheap I got it but I left real happy. Then I went home installed, played and had fun for a couple of weeks while the bank account replenished. I bought the Suite upgrade to 7 for only a bit more... I think I saved around 350-400 bucks.

Now I'm waiting for all of you to stop complaining about 8 and possibly even 9... Thanks you beta testers you.

Oh and yeah... sign me up for free shit.

Offering special deals to new customers is nothing new, and certainly not unique to Ableton. Think about mobile phone upgrades in the US. Of course I want the newest phone for free, but because I am already with the carrier I have to pay, sometimes a lot. This even happened with the iPhone 3G S. I was lucky because I didn't upgrade to the 3G, so I got a great price on the 3G S. People who did upgrade often had to pay the full asking price.

Offering deals to new customers isn't new for Ableton, either. This type of whining has been happening for ages. Perhaps you need to think of it this way: Each of us were new customers once and should have taken advantage of the deals offered to new customers at the time. If you didn't, well that's your fault then, isn't it. Everyone had the opportunity to get a break once, so we're all on a level playing field. There. No more reason to bitch.

I also think that these type of complaints should go directly to Ableton and not to the forum, but perhaps that's just me.

in my first post i wrote that i wanted to know what other users think, so it wasn't just about complaining or bitching.

now i know that not many people think like i do... or just have more money than me. ;)

Me doesn't like the discount mentality too much. It provides advantage for the individual but disadvantages on many levels. Don't think that discounts won't make their way into the overall quotation. I prefer honest and real prices. (2cent)

No most folks are just too busy kissing Ableton's ass. Probably because they somehow subconsciously think they will get some extra love that way.

OR... they don't want to admit they could have got a better deal.

This is the real deal. Its the long time customers who are paying for the new customers "deals" especially in the cell phone example. Ableton did not invent this.

The Abes will make their offers when they feel its time to make offers. I've seen a deal or two that tempted me from time to time. Business is business... WE have to understand that.
