APC like scene relative clip selection on other control surf
So I've searched and searched and I just can't find an answer to this question... partially b/c its kind of difficult to phrase clearly but here goes...
I'm starting to build up a live set where I have a lot of clips to be triggered where I am midi assigning various clips to pads on a trigger finger and several other devices... Ableton assigns the midi trigger/pad to a specific slot so if I page down/the session view and that clip leaves the screen its still assigned to that slot... but I would like the assignment to be relative... aka... now that clip/scene 2 is the topmost row I would like that same pad to now trigger the visible slot 1 and not the slot 1 that is now off screen... is this possible?
I relate this to the APC because as far as I can tell the clip trigger buttons on it are relative to what is shown on the screen... is this functionality unique to the APC or is there a way to allow this same kind of WYSIWYG/relative clip assignment with other control surfaces as well? I hope I am being clear.
Thanks!

As far as I know you're out of luck. This is why everybody is freaking out for an APC40.

I've put some more thought into this and for my purposes, I realized I can set the Trigger Finger to different program banks each assigned different midi channels and then group my clips into banks of 16... I'm not quite ready to shell out for the APC quite yet. Thanks for suggesting those monome links... I had no idea... that looks pretty promising.

What you want is the ability to map midi to mouse position. I know that bomes midi translator can do this on pc, not so sure about mac though, I think it's a feature that was going to be implemented last time I checked.
MBP 2.4, Live 7, Logic 8, Maschine, Audio 2 DJ, Sennheiser HD 25 1 II, M-Audio Fasttrack Pro, Komplete 6, Novation Nocturn, Alesis Micron, Jap Fender Jaguar, lots of guitar pedals...
