I just press play in arrangement view and go off into the crowd pretending I'm triggering stuff from my iPhone.

our VJ has, as a kind of joke.

I did when I used freesound live. when you open lots of tabs in forefox you can do stunning stuff just by browsing samples online. Usually my gmail account opens when I open the browser, so I shortly checked if there is new mail while performing. didn't write or read any mails, though.

Hmm..

When I played live, I would prepare 3 different sets based on how drunk I got.

For times when I was really drunk I've set up extravagant reaktor patches that did nothing before. Lots of knobs and sliders and x/y grids etc... all did nothing, ran input to output and bypassed the plugin altogether. Few times people came up and took pictures of my laptop screen, I bet they are still trying to figure that one out lol

I'm waiting for somebody to man up and just name their project Checking My Email or gig as DJ Checking My Email. It would actually probably relieve a lot of pressure to do some kind of over exaggerated or fake performance.

Never.

Airport is always disabled on my Macbook Pro (even when I'm not performing).

it would be funny to get the Live manual out while performing.

Especially if the song was in a particularly glitchy section, to get out the manual with a concerned look on your face and flip through it, adopt an expression of relief and stab at a button on your controller, and the set leaps to new section.

Ok, perhaps it would not be funny to anyone other than geeks.

@ Angstrom
No, that would be funny. Problem is... unless you're in good with the venue you may have a bit of an issue getting booked again. :(

Well if you made enough of a scene and had a very readable cover that says something like "How to make sound go boom!". You could get a good chuckle from the front row.
We had a tradition for a party around Easter where the DJ would recite passages from the Acid Bible every year. And he was wearing a pope-hat. Good fun :)

word of advice though, never play with a kaoss pad live when you're drunk, cause when your smashed you think the kaoss pad sounds amazing but I've actually cleared rooms thinking that the kaoss pad stutter effect was sounding awesome :)

wasn't there an artist that did their taxes on stage at a festival?
