I am having the exact same problem on a vista box. Using monomulator w/ 7up. I've got everything else working but the "Track Selection" row only lights up but does nothing else. The "Activator" row works sporadically. How did you get those rows working?
Thanks
Last time I tried 7up it worked fine, im on OS X and don't have a windows machine to test her out on. It's kind of a weird app to get going. Id check out the monome forum and see what they say.

Quick question though, There are two versions of the monomulator in the APC folder, one is a .mxf and the other is a .maxpat, you only need to run one of these, if you are running both at the same time then bad stuff will happen.
Also, have you used any other apps with the monomulator APC version?

So far, I have tried both the .mxf and .mxpat files separately and nothing has changed. I have also tried mlr,64step,and 7upLive w/ the same results. The first 6 rows work correctly, the 'track selection' row only lights up and the 'activator' row behaves the same way it did without monomulator.

Ah,,,
Yeah, the apc behaves a bit different than other MIDI controllers prob because its specific to just Live. So Live kinda tells it how to behave. that said -

This should be in the readme but heregoes again.

Ive noticed that sometimes the APC40 changes the MIDI messages it sends out. I don't know how or why this happens. Ive have "reset" the APC40 to its default MIDI messages by going into Live, selecting the APC as a control surface and then deselecting it as a control surface. If you notice something not working right with the Monome App you are using, try this. Maybe if someone figures out why this happens please let me know.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what "it" was. Now, what I'm with isn't it, and what's "it" seems weird and scary to me.

You have to give me a bit more info than that :D

The instructions for the apc end of things are in the readme that come with the download. From there you have to look into what you need to do to make the particular app work. definitely a bit of a learning curve getting monome apps going...

so lemme know exactly what your doing and where your getting stuck and I can try to walk you through.

ok, thats perfect!

what i did so far:

- installed max 5 runtime
- installed monome 0.2.1.2a
- opened MonomulatorAPC40_0.9.mxf
-->
i get the error messages:
Object: newobject / OSC-Route: No such object
Object: serial / specified port not available)

now i thought i´d open monome serial before i open up max...

but when opening the monome serial, i can´t select the apc40 (or audiodevice) in the device settings.

When i want to open up the monome serial AFTER i opened up the monomulator in max, i get an error message:

Runtime Error!

path points to the monome serial.exe

abnormal program termination

(error comes from the c++ runtime)

so i now am a bit confused on which point theres something wrong...

thanks for the help. very appreciated !

This makes sense. My prefs in Live were all wrong. Going to play around w/ it.
Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem before I got things working (new set of problems).
But I have come to really appreciate these issues because each time I resolve
one, I gain so much more insight into how this whole things works.
i get the error messages:
Object: newobject / OSC-Route: No such object
Object: serial / specified port not available)
Use MonomulatorAPC40_0.9.maxpat instead.
If you want to use the *.mxf file, make sure to open OSC-route.mxe first.
You will see the OSC-Route version info, etc...
Check you OSC prefix (mlr,40h,etc...)
Open MonomeSerial
Make sure your prefix matches - don't forget the / (e.g., /mlr)
Check the ports to make sure they match w/ Monomulator
Open your monome app, load some clips and rock out!

If you are still having problems, try MonomeCereal instead of MonomeSerial.

You shouldnt be using monome serial with the apc40.

You will probably have problems binding to ports if your using any kind of monome serial type appwith the monomulator.

Monome serial just takes serial data from the monome and converts it to MIDI/osc to route to your monome app... It doesn't understand apc40 talk.
the monomulator takes apc40 MIDI and converts it to MIDI/OSC to route to your monome app...

OMG This is driving me insane at the moment....

So yesterday I took about three hours to work out what Max runtime was (newbie) and installed it on my vista os. I got the monomulater mxf file and dragged it into run time ( I think thats what to do and the monomulater came up and my apc grid flashed up red then went off. I dl'd mlr app and drgged and dropped the mlr.mxb file into runtime now as above yesterday this did launch clips but no midi light follow of the sample on the grid matterix.

Now today i thought id have another crack but now absoloutley fuck all happens in mlr ....the apc seems ok with monolmulater app but i dunno. Ive meased about with it for like two hours and my eyaes are bleeding...anyone have exact instructions for the mlr app with monomulater ie simple set up for monomulater and mlr....thanks

hi there,

thx for all the help so far.
It got me to the point where i just get:

Object: serial / specified port not available

nothing works. And i hope that i got it right with:

1.open max runtime
2.open the MonomulatorAPC40_0.9.maxpat file (now the mentioned error pops up)
3.look that prefix is /mlr and the ports are right
4.open a monome app and it should work?????

because these steps are getting me nowhere....

cheers

I'm having some issues here as well. Live 8.0.4 and MLR-AES 0.4 (WinXP SP3). Looks like I have communication between the APC and the Monomulator as I can click on the different colors in the app and then see that reflected on the APC. However I cannot get any sound at all coming out of MLR. I have set up according to what I have read (go into options of the app and change the soundcard to ad_rewire) - this then gives me 16 channels of both mono and stereo "MAX" channels (which I assume are the rewire channels). I load up a sound (just drag and drop a loop), hit play in Live (and have my audio channel set to Audio From: Max / 1/2: Max 1, Max 2) and then press some buttons on the row I have set to the loop I loaded. Nothing. I keep getting "%OSC-route: pattern did not match any prefixes" popping up in my runtime window. I load up in the following order:

1> Load OSC-Route
2> Load Monomulator 0.9
3> Set APC as input and output (it shows as USB Midi device, not APC - might be an issue?)
4> Set /mlr prefix and press enter
5> click on OSC to and from ports and press enter to ensure those values are entered
6> Open Live
7> Open MLR-AES and set the soundcard to "ad_rewire"
8> enable override
9> Open a file browser, find a small drum loop (LOOP1) and drag and drop it onto the box labeled "audio file drop"
10> Set the first row's file to LOOP1 (also ensure that channel 1 has volume and is not muted)
11> set Audio tracks input to MAx channel 1/2 in Live
12> press play in live
13> Press buttons on the APC to see if I can hear anything
14> No sound what-so-ever

I can see that Live and mlr are synched because mlr picks up lives tempo. Just seems the communication between mlr and the monomulator is broken (ports or prefix? - couldn't find any mention of what ports mlr is using, and I believe the prefix is /mlr (I've also tried /_mlr to no success)). So I think it has something to do with the prefix. Any help would be greatly appreciated - thanks in advance.

Is there a simpler way of getting this to work?

Thanks very much

Ok, getting somewhere - I was right when I was think it was either hte prefix or ports. Turns out it was the prefix, I was using "/mlr" instead of just "mlr". Once I changed this, the apc pads were playing loops. One weird problem though (and this is just after playing with it for a few minutes with 1 loop), but when the loop plays, it gradually slows down in tempo and I keep having to hit resynch tempo to get it back to the original tempo (where it starts over again).

Any ideas here? I can definitely see the power and fun of the monome patches.
