Where the fuck did these things come from all of a sudden? I've seen several videos with these and I always want to call FAKE but I guess if they're on the news then they must be legit.

So why the hell have we been all consumed by parrots when these far more talented birds kick their ass?

David Attenborough has done stuff on them before - can probably find it on Youtube

Same old story, Parrots get better promotion :)

But, parrots are better than most people know, also. In high school I worked in a petshop, there was a big scarlet Macaw there. Came in one Saturday morning at opening and it sounded like there were 3 or 4 people that had gotten into the store, they were around his cage, talking to him. I thought for a second I'd have to call the cops... but why would they break in just to talk to the parrot?

I peeked in towards his cage and it was just the macaw, mimicking the people that would come and try to get him to say 'Hello'. Not only was he saying 'Hello', but he was saying it in realistic human voices: kids, adult male, adult female, and then 'parrotspeak', that squawky voice that for some reason we think they are supposed to use.

His little joke on them, during normal hours he would make them try five or six times before he'd finally say 'hello' in the neutral parrot-voice they were expecting.

[edit] I also had a friend that had a hyacinth macaw that could mimic sounds he heard on records.

Alex, you should talk the zoo into letting you set up and play a set for the bird, to see what it picks up :)

That was brilliant! I almost believed it up until the drum n bass thing. A great mockery of an already difficult to believe bird.

Or is it real 8O
