What, with a 2.5Ghz dual core processor and 3gig of ram?aburgener wrote:also, that thing is gonna try to run Vista? you'd be fucked.
I beg to differ.
I would recommend having a look at similar samsung models, I have a q210 for instance, which was very good value for money, but the screen is tiny so perhaps an R series would be better. Samsung tend to be overlooked as they're not very popular for PCs and laptops, but they're very well built and cheap for what you get.
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

I checked with the seller it is def 3 GB of RAM that comes with the laptop. I was hoping someone may have one of these and be able to comment on the reliability of Acer's??

If its just for making beats (i.e not live performance) get a pc man - i made the mistake of spending £600 on a laptop 4 years ago - it took about 6 months for me to get sick of the speed it ran at when usin alot of plugins. i got a PC about a year ago - 4 gig ram Pentium Quad core 800 gig hard drive - £400.00 brand new. now i'm happycameron99999 wrote:HI there

don't buy a macbook with that amount of money, you'll get screwed on RAM or screen size...producing on a 13" is a joke.
do your research and never ask a mac guy what laptop to buy. just look at all your options and decide for yourself. COMPARE SPECS.

Ok, how about your resident computer scientist?Rave wrote: Ignore this PC fan boy he hasn't got a clue.
Macs are good. PCs are also good. You pay less for an equivalent PC, so go for the PC if you're on a tight budget. That acer will be fine as long as you're not intending to use very heavy VSTs and can cope with the odd freeze to make the CPU a bit happier.
Yes, Vista is a bit shitty compared to OSX, but not if you're going to use that PC only for ableton, you'll barely notice the difference as the UI is homogenous across the two OSs.

I have to say, you will probably not get a decent Laptop for Music production for this price, you will have to live with way too many compromises....
If you could use a Desktop also - go this route as you will MUCH more horsepower. Also you can tailor it better for music and leave some things out to upgrade them later, and you can get a decent Desktop for this price.
If you really want the Laptop - look very carefully on the Specs, there will be downsides on every Model for this price.
One example: Afriend of mine (who is no Computer Nerd) bought a cheap Laptop for recording his Music.
For the price, it s really a nice Laptop and i was surprised how fast it ran, but he has no Firewire Port AND no PCMCIA or Expresscard Slot. So now he is bound to USB Audiointerfaces, which can be OK, but if you want to do Multichannnel recordings, the air gets very thin....
With a Desktop, you can always ad stuff later....
Having said this, if you want a Laptop, i can perfectly understand this, i also took portability over sheer power with my last Computer, but do your research
