Lots of weird issues after installing 8.0.4 update

Post by sunnymeade » Mon Jul 27, 2009 7:46 pm

Just got Live 8 today and after installing version 8.0 I installed the 8.0.4 update - then odd things started to happen.... :?

1. For starters I expected the 8.0.4 update to self install over the original Live 8.0 folder in C:\Program Files\Ableton\Live 8.0, but instead the update created a new separate Live 8.0.4 folder and installed itself in there! Is that how it should install ??

2. Anyway, placed an 8.0.4 shortcut on the desktop and started it up. All seems fine so I start the lessons and worked through the Audio and Midi setups. All was fine until I get to the Creating Manual Mappings tutorial for controller setup. When I load the music files to do this tutorial the Status Bar reports "Media files are Missing". So I set the Auto Search going and it comes back with "No new candidates were found". A manual search doesn't find the files either !!

3. I then thought that maybe these missing sounds were on the other disk. So I install the EIC sampled instruments packages. They installed fine except for the Woodwinds file. I checked on here and find that file was corrupt so at least I have an answer for that one. Having installed the sample files I move the Library onto my external drive to preserve some space on the C:Drive - this goes fine.

4. On restarting 8.0.4 I then get the messages:

a) "Live has detected another ReWire master appication. No rewire slave applications will be available for use with Live unless you quit the current ReWire master application and restart Live"

b) "The online sharing functionality is disabled because more than one instance of Live is running"

What do these messages mean !? As far as I know I only have Live 8.0.4 open, no other program is open. I do have Cakewalk Project 5 on the PC, but that is not open and it has never been rewired with Live.

My PC is Win XP SP3, AMD 64 3700+ 2.4Ghz, 2 Gigs RAM, Gainward 7900GT graphics.

After an enjoyable first hour with the Live tutorials I am beginning to wonder whether this was a good purchase. Can anyone help with the above issues please ?

1 - each install is a separate install, you can delete older installs without consequence.

2 - how did you load these files?

3 - options - preferences - library - repair Library. this will get the software to analyze your Library and get files it needs from ableton.com

4a - this happens when the program doesn't shut down cleanly or you launch Live too soon after closing it down. on PC go to the task manager and kill the Live.exe process.

4b - same as 4a

2 - how did you load these files?

On page 1 of the "Creating Manual Midi Mappings" Lesson you are asked to load a Live Set and provided with a link to load it. It does load, but with missing instrument files. The missing files appear to be in the Chords, Rhodes and Percs tracks and include guitarchord, guitarchorus, rhodes, rhodes2, shaker.

I tried the auto search and the manual file search and neither of these methods find the files. The files do not appear to be on either of the installation disks that came with Live 8.0 and they are not in the Library. Is this therefore a new bug or am I missing something obvious ??

Thanks for your help on the other problems - 1 and 4a,4b are now fixed after uninstalling the older Live 8.0 version as you said. 3 is now a known bug and Ableton are fixing it.

I've never done the lessons. it's probably that your library is a bit out of date, do the repair Library thing, that should clear that issue up.

Just done the Repair Library option and that doesn't fix it, same files are still missing. I get the impression they were never installed so its probably a bug that needs reporting unless someone else with 8.0.4 tries the lesson and cannot repeat my problems.

Just in case anyone else has the problem......I sent the issue regarding the missing music files in the manual contoller setup lesson to tech support and they have confirmed today that this is a known bug and will be fixed in update 8.0.5 which they say will be released in a few days time :D
