One of my biggest wishes is a better automation system in live. It's really a thing which hinders my work flow.
Some ideas:
- I like the concept from clip automation AND arrange editing - clip automation is a bit like object automation, great.
- the relative automation mode from clip automation is great, but it's limiting that many parameters only can be modulated downwards due to the range (0-100% - you cant add gain with this on a "until" plugin for example)
- I want to automate all things (you can't automate the on/off button for an effect in clip automation for example)
- I want to record automation into clip automation (aka session view automation - maybe it's an idea to have a toggle for absolute/relative automation in the clip automation)
- I would like to smooth out automation data
- draw sinus curves and so on (like in cubase)
- different automation recording modes like in other DAWs would be handy too (the "touch fader" mode in SX is very usefull for example -> only record the automation as long as you hold the mouse)
- I think the visual representation could be improved too
- I want midi automation in the arrange view too
This is just some brainstorming, I think there could be done much more.
best regards

Re: a better automation system für clips and arrange
scratch the 'maybe', amigo, using absolute values and recording autos into clips- I want to record automation into clip automation (aka session view automation - maybe it's an idea to have a toggle for absolute/relative automation in the clip automation)
is a definite must.
even if you can't program it that way right now,
at least make the default 0% instead of 100%.

Being able to see the value when adjusting several breakpoints
at once would be quite handy too. I still can't belive that we
are on v8 now and you still can't do this. Live is the only
DAW (of rank) where you can't see this...Pain.
Only workaround is to insert a utility plug and automate the
gain where I need ride the volume of the "forests" of automation
I have going.

The big pain is relative automation !!!! why not absolute too ?
and +1
for the wishe to automate active/deactive effect in a clip enveloppe and not only in the arrengement window...

Re: a better automation system für clips and arrange
+1 million
I could't belive it when i did find out that is not possible to record midi automation in clips view. From my point of view this is against the whole concept of Live where you play around with clips and loops. Recording midi automation is the first thing that comes to mind and when you play around with Live.
Also all other suggestions of mr.ergonomics are very good.
