We are excited to have Outpost alumni, producer and sonic landscaper Evil Jed (a.k.a. Gerrard Jenner) doing a feature set at this month's OUTPOST event - Wednesday August 26 from 8:30 p.m. at Bar Open.

Jed has been sculpting environments for listeners to cohabitate for the last 12 years and his musical output runs the full gamut from pop to experimental, with his latest works having a dub techno/haunted house flavour.
Jed also employs home built electronics and programmed devices into his live sets so expect an exciting performance.

Head over to the OUTPOST site to check out some sound/video of Evil Jed.

Jammers bring your gear and get it on... Please post/circulate the details of this event to anyone you feel may be interested.

Cheers
the OUTPOST Collective

September OUTPOST is upon us and we have an awesome lineup for this months event which is presented by the Melbourne Fringe.

It all happens Wednesday September 30 from 8:30pm at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Entry is free and the a/v jams are on between feature artists so bring your gear and have no fear!

2 feature artists this month... (one of them being me!)

Random Acts of Elevator Music make rare out-of-office-hours appearance…

Taking a break from a heavy work schedule of daytime elevator performances in Melbourne’s office buildings, Random Acts of Elevator Music bring their live muzaktronica to Outpost at Bar Open on Wednesday September the 30th. Experience these soothing oscillations and melodies and enjoy your resultant increase in productivity.

Random Acts of Elevator Music is the latest project from City Frequencies, a collaboration between Matt Adair and Nick Wilson, who work together on sound projects within the metropolitan environment.

Winterpark (solo)

Begun in 2005 as a collaborative musical studio project by Melbourne musician Matt Ridgway, Winterpark soon evolved into a live band that merged elements of sound design, pop, electronica and noise. 2006 saw the release of the debut album 'One Night Alone'. 2007 saw the band take on the world with an adventure that saw them film a clip in the back alleys of Brooklyn, play at Iceland's airwaves festival parties for free drinks, carry equipment on the Paris underground to play Parties, travel to Prague to play at a bookstore, and write songs in a makeshift apartment in Berlin.

2008 saw Winterpark back on home turf, independently releasing 'Falling Men and Flying Dreams' and a subsequent east coast album launch tour.

2009 brings a new chapter, with Matt creating melodic, ambient, layered, textural music with heavily processed guitar, vocals and live laptop. Playing at OUTPOST as part of Melbourne Fringe Festival. Wednesday Sept 30th.

October OUTPOST is just around the corner, along with the regular jam sessions, we are featuring the heavy, aggressive textures of Autonomous, the solo project of Todd Anderson Kunert, a Melbourne based audio and visual artist. Since its conception Autonomous has appeared on various demos, bootlegs and compilations, as well as performed at various locations around Australia.

Influenced heavily by dark electronic, power noise, hip hop and breakcore, Autonomous produces a concise structure of complex beats, driving rhythms and aggressive textures. He is currently working on the full length follow up to the 'Tell us we can't fly and we'll still jump from buildings' EP released in early 2009. The new album will be released early next year.

It all happens this Wednesday October 28th from 8:30pm at Bar Open, 317 Brunswick Street, Fitzroy.

Entry is free and the a/v jams are on either side of the feature artist so bring your gear and have no fear!

OUTPOST is back for 2010 with a brand new spanking venue, a reinvigorated format and a crew of core artists to help facilitate these events and keep the good times rolling.

WHERE AND WHEN?
WEDNESDAY FEBRUARY 24 @ DJ WASABI'S new creative space TETRIS - 36 Phoenix St, Brunswick (2 minutes walk from Brunswick Railway Station)
8 p.m. till 11:59 p.m.
As always, entry is free, and it's a great opportunity to meet some like-minded artists, see/hear/participate in some great new work and even try out some of your own new material.
So...BRING YOUR GEAR AND HAVE NO FEAR!

SPICY FORMAT CHANGES FOR SHARE OUTPOST 2010

Feature Artist Performance and Informal Q'n'A: We have at least one scheduled feature artist each month.
This year, we thought it would be great to also have artists talk about their processes, their gear and find out a bit about what they have been checking out.
This informal Q'n'A will be hosted by our own Byron Scullin.

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE ARTIST IS..
DJsqgl (DeeJay Sqiggle) is venturing down from the serene surrounds of Lake Macquarrie, NSW to give us a mashup set and talk about his a/v set up on Tracktor.
Sqgl (a.k.a. Joe Koan) was an active part of Clan Analogue in the 90s performing with Signal-to-Noise and the improvising techno trio DoSE (Department of Social Engineering).

Prescribed Stimulus Jam: This may be a key word/style/type of material to be used.
The topic for extemporization by performers will be posted on http://shareoutpost.org a few weeks out. It will also be included in the OUTPOST mail-out the week before the monthly event.

THE THEME FOR THIS MONTH'S P.S.J. IS MY FAVORITE WAVEFORM

More Impromptu Shorter Sets: whether you want to give a tasty snack sized version of something you are working up or if you just feel like performing something more spontaneous - this is the arena for you.

Variation In Performance: We love it when things are less predictable, lets mash up different numbers of players, maybe try a round robin tag team type of affair?

GET INVOLVED...
To get involved in an OUTPOST performance on the last Wednesday of the month
Make your way to our new venue Tetris - 36 Phoenix St, Brunswick (2 minutes walk from Brunswick Railway Station) - around 8 p.m.
Bring any cables you need to connect your rig to the OUTPOST/Tetris system (audio = quarter inch jacks/XLR, video = s/video or composite)
Meet up with one of the OUTPOST volunteers and let them know when you would like to play and in what context (solo or in a group) and they will help get you set up
Rock the house... tell your friends... re-Rock the house

After an awesome February event at DJ WASABI’S new creative space TETRIS OUTPOST is back next Wednesday March 31st form 8p.m. till 11:30 p.m.

WHERE AND WHEN?

WEDNESDAY MARCH 31 @ TETRIS
36 Phoenix St, Brunswick
(2 minutes walk from Brunswick Railway Station)
8 p.m. till Midnight

As always, entry is free, and it’s a great opportunity to meet some like-minded artists, see/hear/participate in some great new work and even try out some of your own new material.
So...BRING YOUR GEAR AND HAVE NO FEAR!

THIS MONTH’S FEATURE ARTIST AND Q'n'A IS..
Spoonbill (a.k.a. Jim Moynihan) ... an elegant and quirky symphony of honey-scented grooves, jovial humour and joyous beat trickery, melding an ever-evolving array of styles into a distinctive ozzie blend. Call it quirk-funk or downbeat with bite, Spoonbill takes the listener firmly by the scruff of the ear and leads them into a shady forest of rhodes, horns, and deep double bass, then back out into an eccentric wonderland of glitched-out grooves infused with talkback radio and rowdy bush cobbers.

Visit the OUTPOST site to check out some video of Spoonbill

Prescribed Stimulus Jam: The topic for extemporization by performers in one of the jams.

THE THEME FOR THIS MONTH’S P.S.J. IS LABORED OF LOVE: SLOW MOTION - see below for game parameters.

AUDIO - Only play for 25% of the time, only work on one sound at a time.

VIDEO - Only work on one image at a time or concentrate on slow motion of images.
