Live 2.0 performance gets sluggish at 14 tracks and 28% cpu?
Live 2.0 performance gets sluggish at 14 tracks and 28% cpu?
I do not understand why the display of the waveform that shows where the start end off loops are gets stuck and sluggish after about 14 clips are playing together..I also get poor performance in the arrange page where the display gets stuck..I am on a pretty fast Mac G4 1000 and ATI 7500 graphics card with dual monitors.. ASIO is a Motu 828 .I do not have as poor performance on my other Powerebook g4 400 on the Apple ASIO...which is really wierd..Any ideas?
14 clips at once may be a lot. Are they large clips?
I am having no problems with the new 828 driver and the OSX.2.3 update with Live 2.01 on a 800Mhz TiBook so I know you can get better performance with your 1Ghz.
What hard drive are you using for audio? Hard drive throughput speed is important because Live streams. I use a OWC 7200rpm Firewire drive.
What OS version are you using?
Which 828 driver are you using?
Which version of Live are you running?
Were you able to run the MOTU uninstaller successfully before installing the 828 driver? This has been known to cause problems.
28% CPU is low for a Mac so you should not be having problems. I sometimes see spikes up tp 50 -60% with no slowness or dropouts.
Please give us more info.

Hi Sorry for not listing my specs:
I'm on a G4 1000Mhz,OS 9.2 Asio OS9 Motu 828.
Harddrive is running off a Firewire HD..(not sure on all specs..but this works fine on my Powerbook 400..actualy better than on my Tower I am having the problem..The clips are not long..max 4-5 bars..and using sometimes just 1 bar loop from them..Maybe I will try trashing all my Live stuff/prefs 1.5 etc..and reinstall to see if it helps..

are you running other software, like games, on this mac?
I tried loading my machine up and the GUI did get a little sluggish after about 13 or 14 clips, but it is designed to do this. Live gives the audio priority and will allow the graphics to slow down before taking cpu away from audio. so even though my faders were sluggish there were no interruptions in the audio and it sounds great.
as ettubaby said, try allocating more memory to Live and trashing the prefs may help.
I am however a little confused, are you saying you are getting better performance from a 400Mhz PowerBook?

Hi Thanks for your help..
Yes I get better performance only with Live on my Powerbook..Well not in terms of CPU but in terms of graphic and this sluggish display thing..Sound is fine..Other programs like Logic and Reason run fine..actually great.and in Live 1.5.2 I never had any problems like this..I will try adding more to the memory allocation of Live.My Mac was upgraded from a 400 G4 to 1gig processor from PowerLogix..It has worked perfect in both OS9 and OSX ..and runs programs like Logic perform awesome..actually everything runs perfect.. (except this weird live thing) I also upgraded my graphics card to a ATI Radeon 8500 to run dual monitors..I also notice that Quicktime plays videos weird ..like all colors are greenish and look kind of inverted..Maybe it is a video setting sometwhere?? Otherwise I love Live 2.0!! Keep up the great work Ableton!
