Post your setups!

Post by Levose » Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:22 pm

I know there's a thread with pictures and sexy cats and what not, but having lurked on this forum for quite a while, and having been an ableton live user for longer, I'm curious as to what use... Even the software folks

My setup consists of:

Computers
- 2.66 GHz Core 2 Duo iMac 20" (4GB RAM, ATi Radeon HD2600 Pro) running Snow Leopard
- 2.4 GHz Unibody Aluminium MacBook 13" (4 GB RAM, GeForce 9400M) running Snow Leopard

Software
- Ableton Live Suite 8.0.x
- NI Komplete 5
- IK SampleTank 2.x XL
- GForce MTron
- Sugar Bytes FX
- PSP bundle
- Novation BassStation
- Waldorf Edition

Audio interface & controllers
- M-Audio FireWire 1814 audio interface
- Novation ReMote 61SL
- M-Audio Keystation 49e (in a closet)

Hardware synthesizers
- Clavia Nord Lead 2X
- Waldorf Blofeld
- Dave Smith Instruments MoPho
- Roland D-50
- Korg Triton Le
- Korg Kaossilator
- (Soon...) Korg Poly800
- Novation XioSynth
- Alesis SR-18 (though seldom used)

Microphones
- Shure SM57
- Shure SM58
- Røde NT1K
- TSM condenser mic

A pretty nice setup, especially for a guy with a budget like myself (poor medical student... :P). I've noticed a lot of you guys use that Akai controller for Live. Is it any good?

Anyway, my first post! :P Comments are welcome, if you have any suggestions for gear additions ;)

I'll bite... it's almost embarrassing, but I'm pretty happy.
Computer and controllers:
Macbook Pro 2.4Ghz 17" 4GB RAM, 200GB HD
2 eSATA external hard drives attached.
three USB HDs for backup.
RME Fireface 800
KRK subwoofer
Rubicon r5a monitors
crappy behringer mixer
Midisport 4x4
Korg PadKontrol
Novation Remote 61 SL
Rig Kontrol
Kore 1 hardware
Behringer BCF1010
Logic Control (old Mackie Control)

The fun stuff! :)
Marshall JMP-1
The Wretch Machine
Vermona RetubeVerb
Poly Evolver
Oberheim Xpander
Memmorymoog w/Lintronics hardware upgrade
78 Gibson Les Paul 'Pro'

Software:
kore 2
Komplete 5
Uh-He- Zebra, Filterscape, MFM2
All All Ohm Force bundle
Nomad Factory Vintage bundle
Camel Phat and Space
Soundhack Spectral Shapers
Pluggo (hopefully the discount for Max For Live is decent for this)
Waldorf Edition
PSP-Vintage Warmer and Nitro
FXPansion- GURU
Audio Ease - Speakerphone
Audio Damage - Reverence
I'm forgetting something here..

DAWs:
Live 7
Logic 8
Digital Perfomer 5
Renoise

Other Audio Software:
DSP Quattro
CDXttract
AutoSampler
EXSManager

Basically I've spent more on software over the years than hardware, and now I'm reversing that. Hardware loses little value when you resell it. All my DAWs are worth dick now that new versions have come out. Same goes for any plug in that I haven't upgraded.

casio VL tone, casio SK-1 sampling keyboard, speak and spell, soundblaster 16, some sony walkman headphones circa 1979, fostex x-15, Sanyo single speaker, portable radio/cassette, mom and dad's Hitachi hifi which I plug the free guitar made from cast off parts by my dad's mate with wrong size volume and tone pots superglued on and protruding like a bare nipple exposed to -40o in winter, directly into the mic input for some jimi hendrix fuzztones, Ms.Pacman on Atari VCS console, Steinberg pro12 on commodore 64 and a glow lamp - and some kind of reel to reel tape recorder I stole from the high school music room in 1985 with nicely gummed up heads and some reel tape which had bad, high noise, many dropouts, recordings of BBC radiophonic sounds, such as clucking chickens and toilets being flushed.

Does the biz for me. I didn't grow up listening to Sebadoh for no good reason. Lofi forever..
