We live in a world that is literally sitting minutes away from complete destruction every second of every day. Can you live in a world full of people who think nuclear weapons are a good idea and think "things aren't that bad" it's not the weapons that are disturbing, it's the people who think those weapons are a good idea that disturb me.

Do you think all the people at Heroshima think the world is a great place?
i never said the world wasn't going to shit

just that it isn't going as fast or as soon as people make it out to be

TV and News corporations are responsible for taking a microscope to issues of no worth while larger ones go unheard and vice versa making bad events seem even worse, when originally they weren't all THAT bad
hell you would think we all have H1N1 according to the news right now

heroshima was disturbing and its disturbing to think that was only the first real use of nuclear weapons

but that was half a century ago and russia hasn't nuked us, we haven't nuked russia, china seems docile

still though there are some sketchy fucks running country's right now

Pitch Black wrote:(inset comic of huxley and orwell here)

Text from the preface of "Amusing Ourselves to Death" by Neil Postman
i completely disagree with that comic its a very surface level look on society and bears nothing on what is happening really, they where both right but they where both wrong both idea are happening at once which is why the world is in such a state
Yeah, it's far easier, and far more fashionable, to be a pessimist these days.

^ of course they are and of course it is. How many people are there in the world?
The answer to that question will give you the number of different human perspectives in the world.

@pitch black

That thesis is pretty accurate, but both do still exist. It's always been my contention that capitalism and more benign forms of socialism, in those cases control is kept the way Huxely sees it, in the case of dictatorial communisms and fascism, Orwell all the way.

Either way is fucked and not the way to live. Maybe in later parts of the thesis the writer talks about how in the Huxely version fear of the other is used as well? dunno, think I'll read it when I get a chance.

USA is chock full of assholes. Always has been (in my lifetime).. in extreme probability always will be.

It's tough to 'give a shit' when everyone around you acts like a jerk or an idiot.

Yep, it is. I saw the thread beats me started a while back and wondered about the whole initial idea of gender roles being seen so important in the, um, perceived decline of general life skills.

The artwork Pitch Black posted hits home a lot more convincingly, in my opinion.
