Forget the theory, do what your ears dictate.

to make tension, go up a fifth, G to D.

to release tension, go down a fifth, G to C.

to introduce emotion go to the 2nd, 3rd or 6th... A, B or E. (in ascending order of strength of 'pull' IIRC.)

go to the 4th for some of the same tension as the 5th but not as much. that would be a C. (C is a 4th up or a 5th down from G depending on where your root note is.)

the pull between the fifth and root is the strongest one in music.

wow
Wow indeed.

one good thing. the hook really is as good as i remember!!
Or G mixolydian.

G mixo will sound cool because the 7th is Fsharp flattened to......yes, you got it, F.

:D

If youre not playing chords or are playing 'rock chords' with no 3rd, then you can really flex the old scales over that chord as they all have the root and 5th in, so G mixo would work.

same notes as Cmajor, just starting on the 5th degree.

Actually this makes sens to me from your first post.

You are playing in Gmixo but your ear is drawn to the original tonic chord of C, hence your feeling the bass has to go somewhere, but it doesn't, keep on the G and savour the mixo flavour.

why did you say that at the start. one evening later I have a kick ass bass line and my killer hook doesnt fit any more. is this one of those moments where a track fragments into two differnt works?

i not really sure. i think it was. but i stoped using the book and started using the force. i think as a result its changed colour and could now be in G.

Keep your bassline, wack a scale plug on your killer hook and start running through the scales.

Key of C is same as G mixo essentially, or G with additional accidental b at the 7th.

Whatever i suppose, question is mainly: Does the chown rock hard???
