Knobs and Buttons, Live Electronia Melb Oz Last Friday/month

Post by spanda » Mon Sep 07, 2009 2:40 pm

Knobs and Buttons is a purely live electronic music event. Open to many genres and styles, each event will be a intricately programed journey through Melbourne?s creative electronic musicians.
Sound is ultimately important so the in house Funktion One sound system will be tuned to perfection and will be specially modified for quadraphonic possibilities... The Live acts will be positioned in front of the system so they can hear exactly what they sound like and can tweak the sound just the way they like. No monitors, just the main system. Most performers are using Live and all tracks are performed in stems or totally loop based. The only musical rule is no full tracks... Live only.

Knobs and Buttons will be on the last Friday of every month.

Next addition Friday 25th September

For 30th October

Bubble and Squeak

http://www.myspace.com/bubbleandsqueakmusic

Stalwarts of the Australian underground, from humble beginnings in the backstreets of Fitzroy, Bubble&Squeak have constantly pushed and pushed the live electronic idea keeping it at the forefront of people minds.

Developing over the years as regulars at Melbourne's best clubs, to the first interstate tour where we headlined the doof stage at Brisbane's Market Day festival pushed us into the spotlight nationally. Several interstate tours followed as did support from radio like JJJ and Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane's community stations. The B&S name reached more and more people than ever. Recorded product was scarce until the HUGE international hit In Shallow with Breakspoll winner Dopamine saw the B&S name thrown about by the likes of Plump DJs and Rennie Pilgrem.

2006 saw us and Luke McD on a HUGELY successful European tour playin 5 countries and scoring one of the most sought after residencies in the world: Playing weekly at the famous Nova Marbella beach parties in Barcelona alongside the likes of Ellen Alien, Michael Mayer, Miss Kitten and shitloads more. As residents there, we were all able to push our names and sound to the international powerhouses of dance music in our field.

oblique_industries

oblique_industries was formed by talented musician/composer Ryan Schofield in 2001. Almost hypnotically drawn to the Australian electronic music scene after years performing in various rock bands around Melbourne , Ryan still has a strong leaning toward live music. Always an act to watch, >>>oblique_industries’ combination of organic instruments including percussion, voice and cello with electronic synths, samplers and drum machines, together with an electric onstage energy, sees his performances create a unique fusion of sound and visual style. Ryan somewhat mischievously explains his music as ‘eclectic electronica’ or ‘eclectronica’. Incorporating everything from chill beats and dub, to minimal, electro, techno, breaks and progressive into his live and DJ sets, >>>oblique_industries has been compared to Trentemøller, Stephan Bodzin, Vitalic, Son Kite, Antix and Juno Reactor, just to name a notable few. From organic, earthy tones to digital bleeps and squeaks; the upbeat to the downright nasty, >>>oblique_industries has crafted a sound as much to tantalize the mind as the body, exploring the contrasts between light and dark, loud and soft, BIG and small… whilst delving deep into the spaces in between. Throughout his impressive career, Ryan has performed at some of Australia’s premier outdoor festivals, all the time crossing, blending, and obscuring the boundaries of genre & style. Memorable performances include Akasha Festival, Maitreya Festival, Rainbow Serpent Festival, Tribeadelic Gathering, Earthcore Global Carnival and Earthdance as well as numerous club dates performing either as headliner or support for a wide variety of local and international acts including live collaborations with Kaya Project (UK) and Mantrix. >>>oblique_industries has also gained a reputation for special performances including guest musicians playing an array of instruments from around the world, one highlight being the closing ceremony for Earthdance Melbourne 2006 which featured 8 guest musicians playing violin, cello, nylon string guitar, didgeridoo and percussion. Releases include ‘War Against War EP (2002)’, ‘As Seen On TV (2003)’, and >>>oblique_industries’ first full-length album, ‘22’ (2005). Tracks from the album can be heard on radio and dancefloors around the world. Ryan is currently working toward a new >>>oblique_industries record. As well as releases on his self-managed label, ‘Oh-One Records’, >>>oblique_industries tracks have been featured on numerous compilations. Ryan also hosts a radio program, playing a diverse selection of cutting-edge electronic music, on Melbourne radio station PBS FM. Check out www.obliqueindustries.tk or

Play Live at Knobs and Buttons...

Post by spanda » Wed Oct 14, 2009 2:36 pm

Mission Statement to Artists -

Knobs and Buttons is a collaborative monthly night dedicated to live electronic musicians and live electronic music. There is no specific genre or style of music for the event, electronic is as classified as it gets.

Knobs and Buttons aims to have live electronic music showcased and presented in the best possible club environment. Acts are set up in the filed of the main system so the cry for better fold back will never be heard at a knobs and buttons event...

Infield Monitoring gives us a great opportunity to hear our music from the perspective of the audience. This would be not much advantage if we were playing full tracks only editable be simple eq, therefore it is required that elements of the live music be in a live format... Examples are stems of Kick, bass, Percussion, Lead, Fx, completely loop based Ableton performances or sample player based instruments like the Akai MPC range. Thus if the bass sounds different to your intended ideal you can change it as it is separate in some way.. Usually we experience difficulty attaining our desired sound or even having any idea of what our listeners hear. Playing through a big PA while listening to a small fold back speaker has never make sense to us so we changed the way things are done, for ever, and would like you experience the difference and give our audience the experience you hear in your studio.

Available for you use on the night will be :

- A finely tuned Funktion One system in a good sounding room (four points of sound and can be controlled quadraphonically if needed)

Some people to play to

Analog mixers to plug in to, a 16 channel and a 24

A Nord Lead 3

A Virus Indigo One

A SH101

- Please communicate cabling requirements or anything else you may need. Also required space on stage and please arrive early with lots of friends/fans and leave a long time later.
- A profit share system will be implemented where by the door takings will cover expenses incurred and not already paid by the previous event (promotion, door people, materials, hire of items), a 30% of the total towards the next event and the remainder will be split between the artists (Music and Visual). We hope this will be fair to all and also motivation to promote the event as the more people through the door the more we all get.

- Also send contact details : best email, phone, web site, MySpace, Facebook, Soundcloud, Reverb Nation Etc..

- Please give us as much notice as possible, i.e. two weeks or more if you have to cancel as its really hard to find a live live act at short notice.

- We would appreciate some ideas as to where is best to advertise your style of music, e.g. internet forums so we can do our best job to promote you and us.
