I'm not hiphop enough for rapper apparently..

Post by nuxnamon » Wed Sep 09, 2009 8:22 pm

so I made a track for a guy.. he say's it's not hip hop enough and sounds too electronic... needs more of the "lil wayne" sound as he put it.. he wanted me to change a bunch of stuff but I declined and am using the track for my group instead.. maybe it is true and it is not hip hop but I also know lil wayne isn't really hip hop either. anyways, if you have time, click on my sig and listen to a track called "twisted" and give me feedback.

also, if you know what constitutes a hip hop beat, please enlighten me..

Forget that shit.. The Hip hop these kids want is the bass jacked up too high, AUTO tune, and clicky fast high hat's..

All the "hip hop" rappers I've run into want their shit to sound "just like lil wayne". Be original for christ's sake.

Don't make any edits, use it yourself.. Let them rap ontop of lil wayne instrumentals and think they're bad.

It's the gated synths and the tempo.

Tempo is too high for the hippety hop and those gated synths are nowhere near Compton.

On the other hand...I like it anyway.Speed it up a bit and turn it into a breaksy thang instead.

For me Hip Hop/Rap starts and ends with Dre (End of), i love all that classic dre stuff, actually aftermath was one of the finest albums ever made, on par with 2 Pac's :)

Edit: Thought i mention its my birthday today lol, 23!!! Cheers!

It's a solid track, but I get what he meant, most of the more hip hop stuff I've listened to is way more laid back and minimal, compared. That's by no means a bad thing though, it's all about doing things differently ! :)
Some stuff, and some other stuff. Honest.

the gated synths are not hiphop although they COULD be Lady Gaga uses some cliche trance sounds to great effect.
Whatever style you're shooting for you need to back off on the reverb on the drums! Too long & too much - Shit needs to be bone dry fo deze daze fo' real dawg!

I just listened to tha track and I think it's awesome.. If the guy was any good he would at least try to see what he could spit on that track, maybe he'll bring a new element to "the rap game".

Collective Efforts is an awesome group, and they don't stick with the cliche hip hop standards and still rock shit like no one else.

I like the beat. Personally, I don't like anything by lil wayne at all.

This is the sound of Hip Hop that I like the most:

It's a pretty good track, but definitely not hip hop. It would be pretty difficult to lay down "hip hop" oriented lyrics over it.
