Make it 85 to 95 bpm and use an 808 kit under that melody.
That's all they ever want.

While I beleive this too an extent, to beleive in it too completely is to be narrowminded... Thats what makes people say things like...hurlingdervish wrote:dunno man^^^
but rap beats aren't about the quality of composition..the beat is supposed to serve the rapper not your (excellent) skills
the more room you leave for them to rap the better

There's some really good, really deep, hip hop out there with beats just as sweet as the rhymes and vice versa.. The problem is they're 85% same ole shit and/or that mass market crap from TV. Thats why people have their minds so made up about "rap" or "hip hop". Its just as easy to say the same thing about house music or tarnce but since almost nobody but DJs and wanna be DJs even know who makes 99.9% of it no one can knock any of the artists.
@ gabrielsaint I wasn't trying to single you out. No bad vibes dude. I actually hate it when someone says "what choo mean they?" or some such, but the example was easy to grab.

I think the main thing is the snare - too much delay efx and it doesn't crack enough. Im not sure I heard much of the kicks either. Sounds good though.

Re: I'm not hiphop enough for rapper apparently..
obviously the best hip hop will be the ones with original vibes and rhymes
but hes talking pure beats for cash
and if the dude is buying beats...he probably just wants the same old shit
the good shit will probably be made by hip hop fans that want to push the genre or a partnership inside of the studio with a direct dialogue and not "is this good?" "or how about this"
but the average joe rapper just wants simple stuff

By "they" I meant top 40 and all the kids at the clubs that request top 40 rap like the stanky leg.
I love 85pm 808 beats. And I love you too!

I'm not a really a Lil Wayne fan, but I'll say this much...
Over the years I've heard/read so many comments regarding how shitty hip hop is, and how any monkey with half a brain and one nut could create it.
No. We don't believe you. You need more people. It's a lot harder than the average Electro God of Music might think. Not a jab at the OP, but I listened to the track, I have to agree that it isn't quite hip hop/street/Lil Wayne-ish enough. The drums just aren't hip hop AT ALL. I think it would sit perfect as a bed for a car ad. Video game music? Definitely. Hip hop???? Well...
Well...for anyone telling you to be original for fuck's sake, let's just say the gated trance sound is already played out in today's pop music masquerading as "hip hop". Lil Wayne may not be the artist you enjoy, but he's been featured on PLENTY of dope ass beats. I suggest you take a listen to Drake's "Forever". Look up Lil Wayne's Kobe Bryant Dedication for the 2009 Finals.......
Soon you'll understand...

I say go buy a ski mask and a dark oversized hoodie, break into his house and beat him until he cries. Then ask him if your hip hop enough.

quote of the year right hearThrowAway wrote:I say go buy a ski mask and a dark oversized hoodie, break into his house and beat him until he cries. Then ask him if your hip hop enough.
to the thread starter, your tracks are sweet and I really enjoyed them a lot, dont change shit, tell them to learn some diversity in their skills and flow, that will usually scare them off pretty quick, works for me whether I want it to or not
