live 8 is HUGE/problems with snow leopard
live 8 is HUGE/problems with snow leopard
help!
i've got a gig in about ONE HOUR and i upgraded to 10.6 snow leopard last night. ever since, live has been behaving like a madman! it cannot stay open for more than five minutes without crashing. i have live 7. as a last ditch effort, i have purchased and am downloading live 8 as we speak, hoping it will be "magically" better, but it says it's going to take an hour and a half to download. it's 500something megs, while live 7 is 125 megs. why the bloat?
also live is having some trouble keeping up with my bloated sets on an older mac. does that mean that heavyweight 8 is going to be even worse?
is everybody having such problems with snow leopard and live 7? searching online and here i don't find much to confirm or deny that.

Re: live 8 is HUGE
So many things wrong with what you have done.
8 will run slower than 7 probably, but not much though. By the sounds of it, you're better off to burn a cd and fake it at this point. Nobody likes silence every 5 minutes and if your gig is in 60 minutes, and the download takes 90, you're stuck with 7 anyways.
Edit: I use 7 and 8 with Snow Leopard and they both work as well as they always have.

worst case scenario i use itunes, but that sucks...... :/
i suspect my apc40 has something to do with this weird equation. since i've disconnected it no crashes.. yet.

Re: live 8 is HUGE/problems with snow leopard
so for the record, or anyone who's curious:
the set was bangin'. they had wi-fi there and i downloaded live 8. live 8 worked perfectly.
in my experience, snow leopard+live 7 = crash city. snow leopard+live 8 = match made in heaven
and also for the record, live 8 runs MUCH more smoothly and quickly than live 7 did, even on my old machine. go figure.

HAHAHAHAHA.
Sorry, dude, no love to the fool who needs his music rig to work in a gigging situation and upgrades his OS the second it comes out. I hope you've learned a valuable lesson. Good thing you cloned your drive before doing such a massive update. Oh wait...

lol @ your worst case scenario
in that case you really should have upgradet to iTunes 9 (2 mins before the show) and use the "Genius Mix" feature ^^

I just wanted to join in the HA HAs.
Even some people on here I consider intelligent and experienced couldn't help themselves but to instantly upgrade to snow leopard.
"Instantly!? No, I waited 2 days! Just to make sure."

If its not broken, dont fix it (a bit late to say so). My workstation is amazingly stable with XP sp2, I do all my tweeking and upgrade on another machine.
Re: live 8 is HUGE/problems with snow leopard
I've found snow leopard to be 99.97% excellent personally, other than a single broken printer driver. Zero other problems, noticeable improvement to teh snappy, and 11 new gigs of hard drive space.
Wouldn't have tried installing it the day of a show, though.
In other news, never buy a fucking OKI printer.

From what I've read, your 11 free gigs are just a matter of new byte calculation mode...porfiry wrote:I've found snow leopard to be 99.97% excellent personally, other than a single broken printer driver. Zero other problems, noticeable improvement to teh snappy, and 11 new gigs of hard drive space.
