I'm also having issues.

Running 7.0.16 and it closes randomly and then I get the report a fault pop up.

It ran perfect before hand. I've tried different sets, different file types, with controllers and without. Internal and external drives, core audio and external and it crashes regardless of what's running.

Got a gig coming up too so I need to get this fixed ASAP.

I've reported it to ableton and sent the crash logs but they don't think it'll be fixed any time soon

atleast you now have a cute picture to look at for the next couple weeks while your waiting, haha

i forced into booting the 64 bit kernel, ableton runs just fine, FF400 on the other hand, no go

rme has a 64bit beta for the UC and who knows how long it will be in beta before its final then how long will it take to move to the other hardware

32bit mode for me until then i guess

I installed over the top of everything to begin with, got a weird hang while the computer was booting and decided a reformat was a better method. No problems. I'll post a benchmark for both my Macbook and Mac Pro later tonight.

Official word....

http://www.ableton.com/pages/faq/osx_106

Will test on Mac Pro but will hold off on Live machine (Macbook 5,1 stock with 2gb ram)

Actually at work so just booted from another computers hard drive and tried the same set and run on macbook soundcard.

On Leopard the set gets more than 10 tracks (most on complex pro) fine but doesn't run well on batteries...

Snow Leopard seems to use a little more processor but can play a few more tracks with power and is heaps better under battery. Definitely snappier all round. I'd give it +5-10% on power and +30-40% on battery. Also uses half as much virtual memory and a touch more real memory. No definitive test but best I can do at work...

Look forward to an openCL compatible Live.

2gb ram is definitely not enough for either Leopard or Snow Leopard...

Cheers

So took the plunge anyway on macbook as all reading shows basically no issues for anything I run.

Song that previously ran at 68% is running at 32% and same with power or battery. Big difference...

Couldn't resist installing Snow Leopard this weekend. I erased my hard drive, installed Snow Leopard, Ableton, Reaktor, Guitar Rig, Traktor Pro, and Battery.

All I've really tested is Ableton with my Reaktor Plugs. I run an intensive Live Set and was hoping Snow Leopard would seem more stable. So far it looks great. My usual live set that used to wobble between 35-60% and occasionally peak to around 70something, is now at a rock steady 23-25% on the CPU meter.

As usual it's a real pain in the ass to remember all the details on doing a clean install, but I found it to be worth the effort.

I'm loving the Snow Leopard. If it works this good, things will only be getting better when Audio Apps start taking advantage of 64bit abilities.

Far from the days of even Live 5 with a 13" MacBook, and lightyears from Live 1-3

Wow, you guys are seeing MUCH bigger performance gains than I was after upgrading. I noticed maybe a 2-4% increase in CPU useage, certainly not the 50% you guys are claiming. Did you run the Live 8 performance test and see the same results?

No, I pretty much use the same 2 sets one for DJing and one for my Band and they are close to identical as far as rountings, FX, plugs etc. I have been running those sets for a while now. I just made sure to take notes on the CPU meter before I installed Snow Leopard. I don't totally trust the CPU meter, but I am amazed to see such a difference. I would imagine it has a bit to do with a clean install too. My laptop always performs better on a fresh install.

I'm not 100% what the performance test even is. I read a bit about it, but I'm rarely on the Ableton forums because there seems to be lots of silly wise cracking posts and it's time consuming to navigate.

I posted this because I thought some might like to know. I see more posts about complaints, which are sometimes valid. When stuff is buggy it's anoying, but there seems to be countless posts of potinless complaints about updates not being enough.

Snow Leopard for 30 bucks, and better performance on my favorite apps, is the best update I've had to experience.

I just read about the performance test. Will give it a shot tomorrow and repost my results.

Thanks!

I think these huge performance gains just must be the Live cpu meter reading very differently (or maybe the processor scaling works differently now) - Ableton itself says that the program will not take advantage of any of grand central station or gpu processing, above and beyond what has been there since Live 6 - this sucks cause I have been maxing out my 8-core 2.8 while mixing bands, something I think it would be almost impossible to do in Logic (I read reports of MANY more plug in counts of the same plugs I am using, in Logic). Things have improved with track grouping (sends just KILL the cpu in Live), but this program is still a pig - I love it to death, but it really cant compete with the optimization of most of the competition.

Ableton, please find a way to utilize Snow Leopard to get more out of my machine (perhaps more efficient core distribution or gpu power) - I hate it when I see the wheel of death!!!
Can you hear it?

I upgraded to 10.6.1 and I'm getting the same error. I got an error like this also when going from 10.4 to 10.5. It had to do with a digidesign extension, I'm using an MBox 2. I emailed Ableton support and they told me which one to remove. I'll have to email them again..

Ableton takes an age to open, about 5mins. Whilst loading the coremidi.framework folder keeps appearing in the dock then disappearing.
Anybody got any idea why this might be?

Since upgrading to 10.6, midi is now broken. I'm getting "Required software extension are missing." message, then clicking OK sends me to http://www.paceap.com/ilwebdnld4.html. Then CoreMIDI quits. I can play songs but no midi controllers. My Mac Pro doesn't seem that much faster then 10.5.8. Oh well, hope Live 8.0.6 will be coming soon.

I uninstalled Pro Tools LE 7.4.2, disconnected the MBox2, since I don't really use PT much anymore. This fixed the previous problems I mentioned. I guess if I want to use the MBox2 as an audio card again, I'll have to wait for an update from digidesign. I have a Motu 828mk3 that I wasn't using, so I'll switch back to that.

Edit: Everything is running smooth with the 828mk3 and Live 8.0.5. Snow leopard is actually really cool. Gave me about 16 GB extra of disk space and the computer is a bit faster.
