Re: Any ableton Live users in London?
Hello long lost London Users!
I'm sorry I've missed out on the forum action for the last while and particularly the get together on the 22nd, but it's been a busy summer culminating in a bout of flu for the best part of this week so I couldn't make it.
So I'm sitting in bed nursing my sorry self back to health and have an interesting chat with Martin Delaney who as most of you will know is one of Live's foremost educators and exponents in the UK. He says Live have been aware of our posts here on the forum and would like to enhance our little community with some kind of official status. They've asked for Martin to get in touch with us and facilitate the process and I think Martin would like to meet with us and hear our story so far... you know the epic one that starts...
'It all began with a lonely forum and a couple beers, but soon they had London in the palm of their hands...'
Anyway, for those who are interested, this could lead to all sorts of things like... well official Status!
(something I'm not sure I've ever had before).
I'm planning to meet up with him on Tue eve (29Sept) at the Hidden Away Music gig in Wimbledon, which is a folk night, but quite close to where Martin lives.
I think Dave from Hidden Away Electronic might be there, although I haven't heard back from him yet.
I guess it's quite far for some of us, so if that doesn't suit enough of us we can try set up something else.
All the best you Live addicts.

Re: Any ableton Live users in London?
great news elliot!
but if i can suggest a more convenient place this will be the hiddenaway electronic event right next to victoria station i think this one will be on wednesday if i'm not mistaken, all the performers use ableton and it is a bit more convenient for everyone.
we will need to confirm if it is happening and if delaney is willing to come down... if not, i guess it'll be wimbledon then

again great news!

Unfortunately Martin has had a bit of Flu this week, so I don't think he'll be joining. However, since there'll be lots of you this eve and I'm coming thru as well we can have a natter about it then. Laters!

Sounds great Eliot. I'm not there this eve, but hopefully getting a set together for October, so will catch up then!

Re: Any ableton Live users in London?
Ok so what does 'Official' mean. First off let me make very clear that whatever I say here is by way of deduction and assumption, so please don't take this as gospel truth as I have never been part of a user group.
I think it is a given that we get a myspace page and have an official User Group Logo provided by Ableton.
Beyond that, I'm hoping that they will show a certain amount of interest in our progress, but I think to a large degree the rest is up to us.
Having looked at some of the other User Groups on Myspace I think Official status means we get together regularly to exchange tips and tricks, we organise gigs together and I would personally like to get some master classes happening as we did with Forge (aka Craig?). Martin for instance is an expert educator in Live and something I'd love to explore in a group is jamming with laptops, something he is teaching currently doing with City Lit. If there were enough of us for something like this I'm sure we could do the class pretty cheaply. Perhaps we could approach Ableton for funding.
Anyway check out the links below and lets talk further...
This is an ancient article on user groups

Here are some of the curent user groups:

Adios for now amigos!
