Simple MFL example: Sidechain any Device Control
Here's a video showing a very simple mfl device i made. It takes volume and then uses the live.remote~ object to control any device control in Live.

Just want to mention that some of the controls in the video don't run too smoothly, I believe that is because of the processing power that is needed to record the screen cast. When not screen recording the movement of the manipulated controls closely follow the level of audio sidechained to it

Nice job on the tutorial, Mike. Clear and easily followable.
As far as this Sidechaniner gadget is concerned... ME WANTIE! This answers a quiet desire I have when using Live "...man, I wish everything had a sidechain on it."
I was back on the fence about getting M4L, but if it means a bunch of simple & useful tools like this will be at hand, you can count me in.

yeah, same here, every control needs sidechaining! thats why i made this. I plan on releasing it when mfl is out, just want to add a couple things like envelope follower, attack/release, that sort of stuff...really simple to make in max, not too much guts to it.

there should be an option of smoothening the response.

see that's the thing, with max the options are almost endless.Grappadura wrote:there should be an option of smoothening the response.

this is how i feel, almost to the point where your imagination is the only limitmike@TrackTeam Audio wrote:see that's the thing, with max the options are almost endless.Grappadura wrote:there should be an option of smoothening the response.
i like the sidechainer, seemed like a round about way to create an LFO for something though, there is a video out somewhere showing a person building just a straight up LFO in M4L used to control anything
but anyway, very excited

yeah, the LFO demo was more proof of concept, but think about using it on a synth like absynth, where you can design your own LFO waves or use those crazy envelopes.zalo wrote:

will put it out when mfl is in the hands of a few more users. jus want to add a couple more features. This would actually be a good beginner project for anyone wanting to jump into max as there is really not much to it at all.globalk wrote:Great Video!

What's the "Knight Rider" effect I noticed in your Max Audio folder?

How odd,
This was exactly what i was thinking of this morning. Specifically how to side chain eq bands in live. Then I got to thinking how you could side chain anything
One thing that would be really useful would be a live rack that can accept sidechain in for the macros. That way you have a work around which doesn't need investing in M4L for.
Also a proper cross over (i.e. no bleed) which outputs on 2 different channels would be good.
and all the other stuff we have been banging on about for the last few iterations of live. . .
bezier curves, numerical parameter value entry, automation points snap to timeline etc etc

I slipped into a daze, whilst I was there I heard the most startling music, it was at once familiar and alien, reassuring and unsettling.

Excellent stuff. Wanted this functionality for ages. This is definitely the most useful MFL example I've seen so far. Finally I can sidechain EQ movements!
