Simple answer, Mainstage. Mainstage switches entire plug in setups seamlessly in mostly less than a second, multi track plug in setups with controller keyboards split between as many soft synths FX and samplers as your CPU can handle. You can assign all of that to a program change message and have an entirely different controllers and keyboard setup for different parts of the song even, with the same physical hardware. Live has an incredibly cumbersome and poor implementation of this compared, and really, little has changed in the area of live performance in Live beyond Max 4 Live, which is a toolkit, not a seamless solution to this. Nothing has changed in terms of Follow Actions forever, great idea, room for improvement, nothing different since V4 from what I can tell. I could go on, but the lack of ability to switch hardware controller assignments to different plugins and get that CPU back 99% is a big deal to me anyway.

On that line I haven't seen any indication that Bitwig is doing anything revolutionary in that area, hence the post. :)

I don't think Live has changed significantly between version 6 ( when I started using ) and 8 ( an upgrade I've yet to bother with ). I'm not even sure Live has needed to change much though... but certainly, the upgrades didn't add functionality, in the way they claim. and certainly, plenty of us were not excited enough about the upgrades, to upgrade...

I hear version 8 crossfades audio... that's, pretty late to the party for crossfading. I wonder if bitwig 1.0 can do crossfading...

Anyways, its too late for me, whatever... I've already bought, and started to learn Sonar. I don't like jumping around from DAW 2 DAW, dealing with the learning curve, and getting my workflow used to a new program.
Linear Phase has left the building..

Maybe Im too thick for this, but I dont understand where the song structure, sequences, original sound design and so on is supposed to happen if not in a DAW. We only have 10 fingers. We cant do it all on the fly. Unless we are that famous NI finger drumming whiz kid (no thanks). In other words, where's the clips?

But I get what youre saying about control changes.

I signed up before they had a website up and there were like 20 comments on their blog.
I was hoping it was first come first serve.

fooey.
Yes, at least they did a good job pissing off a lot of people. Perhaps they can sell the collected email adresses for a good price.

Hopefully someone will leak a "try before buy" version. :(

Actually I'm too busy for testing, but I appreciated their beta email server bug anyway.
