Report #10
June 3, 2010

The iPad is sitting next to me right now. And while it may be turned off and in it's case, it's still sending out warm vibrations of love my way.

True story, that.

I'm checking my email on my iPhone every hour in anticipation of the "YOU HAVE 24 HOURS TO PICK UP YOUR IPAD, FUCKER!!!!!" email from Apple.

I don't think the current mutual scrotal massaging between Apple and Google/Gmail would allow that to happen.

Well. This is the first time I felt somewhat lame buying an apple product. I was in slight disbelief that I fell into the hype while I was buying it, but we'll see how it goes. I have finally admitted to myself that I like the idea of this thing. After seeing so many uses for it, I walked across the street from my work to a Future Shop and bought an ipad yesterday.

So far I've only used it for browsing the net, which I'm finding a bit slow but that might have been my wifi this morning. It was definitely slower than 3G.

And does it not like google video? That's one of the main places I watch movies and documentaries. I can't seem to get it to load videos at google video...

I've heard a lot of complaints about the little track ball joystick thingy on blackberries. What's the story there?

before touch screen, it was the best thing going IMO, unless you're into a stylus, which I hate. I like touchscreen for some features, but not all. I'm on my 5th or 6th Blackberry and I only ever had trouble with the wheel and/or trackball once. I pulled the ring around the trackball off, lifted the little unit out and blew on it. I think a piece of tobacco was causing the problem. Whatever it was, the issue was solved when I put it back together. The newest model I have has some type of vinyl cover over the trackball and its enclosed really well. I don't foresee any issues since others with the same model have been going strong. Even newer models have a track pad, like a mini version of the one on a laptop. I manage the BES server at work which has about 26 blackberries attached to it. I don't remember more than maybe one of them ever having a broken trackball and it was a Pearl which was like the chick version of the phone. They're pretty solid and the touchscreen models had a few little isms at first but the new OS is top notch. We have 3 or 4 users that have em with no real issues. The only problem that seems to pop up on any kind of regular basis is the micro USB connector goes out. This seems more like a flaw with that particular bit of technology rather than the phone itself, as most phones these days have em.

At the end of the day I think a lot of peeps just prefer the sleekness of the touch screen, or at least, they think they would...
The blackberry seems like SERIOUS BUSINESS and as far as I know they are the preferred smart phones for business, but I don't want a job that comes with a smart phone because that denotes a level of career success that says you don't have enough free time to pursue any creative interests to fail at. But then again, as I'm 37 I'm thinking I should get a smart phone equipped job and impregnate a lady friend because I'm really running short on valid excuses as to why my creativity isn't going anywhere.

Is there any fun factor to the blackberry?

nah. its a phone that does other shit. that shit can be very useful. its reliable, secure and doesn't burn the battery up if your connection to email goes down like an iPhone will when its trying to reconnect to the point of absurdity. if i need to go online i can but i prefer to have at least a laptop, if not a desktop for that. yeah, apps are cool, but so is a Nintendo DS.

The Blackberry is reliable. That's about it.

More and more companies are moving away from it and switching to the iPhone. Recent article:

Trackballs are so yesterday. meh.

IT guys have hated the iPhones (and all things Apple) because they hate anything that might smack of an imagination and/or creativity.

I understand the blackberry for business purposes but for personal use sans any kind of fun it seems like an overly elaborate and expensive option.
