What is interesting to me is that if you take all of the improvements being put in (including, I'm hoping what gets announced tomorrow) it smacks of being VERY useful in the same way Maschine is useful, but the workflow of that type is spread through the entire application (with all the other things Reason/Record does).

I'm hoping for a device that centralizes those improvements still - but maybe its not necessary per se.

King = REX (in translation), so let's see what tomorrow brings. Good stuff and very interesting to follow.

Well, the samplers = samplers feature is pretty cool, but I'm not too into the way the samples are stored in the current
song file; I hope that using the "export" option means that the sample is moved to a location of your desire and simultaneously
removed from the project, so that you don't need to have a larger project file when you've recorded a sample you'd like to
use in other tunes as well.

Is this possibly the integration of Recycle that some of you asked for? I think I saw some transient detection in the vid?

I'm hoping that Recycle works in the same way Reason works with Record. It is stand alone if you want to use it that way (and can purchase as a separate product), but if you own Record, it just integrates itself into the workflow without having to start up the program (just like Reason does now with Record).

That would be a pretty awesome solution and provide the best of both worlds. Many people use Recycle as a stand alone product still - so you don't want to abandon that benefit still IMO.

Proper sampling....hmmmmm. I love all that I see so far. One more day left. I'm already sold on an upgrade from Reason 4 to 5. For all those that are hatin' just because you didn't hear about all they could have done to satisfy you. Too bad! I don't need a single DAW/program/processor to do it all. I will use all the tools available as needed.

Impressed with the built in Sampling. Not quite adding Recycle functionality but in effect offering a work around and the possibility for adding it in the next major release.

Reason 5, Sold! Record........

Conceptually it appears to me that Record is the master host and now things like Reason and/or possibly Recycle are the plugins...

think about it. They are changing the paradigm right in front of our eyes... Who needs VST if they keep going down this route?

Yeah, I haven't picked up a copy of Recycle yet, but every time I've used it, it's been the best program out there besides Live itself for finding loop points in sampled material that are musical, even if the sampled material is just random noise.

Have to say I'm liking Propellerheads closed system approach in that they don't seem to use third party developers much if at all.
I wonder how stable Reason/Record will be after all this? considering that Reason was dead stable in that there was few things that interacted with their code, just MIDI controllers and audio out?
If they added functionality to Reason/Record for live performance, Ableton would be in trouble IMO.

Aren't there third party plug ins in Record, embedded though like the AAS stuff in Live?

you bring up an interesting point about live performance.

Because you can choose the sampling input and there are some real time processing effects going on... I'm starting to wonder if Reason might be migrating to a true live performance and musical instrument production tool. BLOCKS... plays a part here as well.... I'm probably reaching though.

That'd be a nice direction to move towards - especially since the application is so rock solid and dependable....

hm.

well, the Line6 stuff is the clearest example of how Props want to handle extending functionality to Reason/Record...

If you think about this as a framework, they have a ton of latitude to surprise us in the future with their releases.... And the props have innovation in their blood (and definitely refining things to make them elegantly useful within their workflow), so I think this release is a huge milestone that signals another wave of exciting stuff coming out of Sweden.

Just guessing here, of course. :)

Reason/Record is starting to look quite appealing, though I can also see its failings. Even though they've not added anything that amazing, the fact that it's 3 items Reason/Record/Recycle does mean it's quite expensive if you were to buy it from scratch.....total price £600 ish...and it's still not there yet....ouch!

Hmph.

All I got to say is that I'll be upgrading Reason from v1 and getting Record. IMNSHO, Ableton need to bite Blocks and the Sampling implementation.
