And you still can't record a performance and have it play back, even with 1.6
It's really strange!

Oh, that's really too bad.
Well, it's not a total deal breaker, since I could host it in Live, and Live + Looper CAN do this.
@timothyallan: I don't understand; I thought you could always do this with Maschine

yeah, the fact that you can't hit record in Live, play the pads and patterns and have them play back afterwards is really a bummer... unless you record to audio.

Well hold on a minute. You can either set midi notes from the track to trigger patterns or individual pads in a group. So if you set it as midi notes to patterns, you can the patterns and record in clips or in arrange and have it playback just like anything else in live. Isn't that what you're looking for?timothyallan wrote:yeah, the fact that you can't hit record in Live, play the pads and patterns and have them play back afterwards is really a bummer... unless you record to audio.

You can trigger scenes, but not patterns via midi.
I.e. If I have a snare that I want to play for 3 bars, then play a fill pattern, I can't do that and have it recorded.

Ok right, I see what you're saying. Theoretically couldn't you play the snare from the pads, while recording that snare in the current Maschine scene, and also recording the note from teh ableton track that is triggering that scene, then trigger a scene with your fill pattern from a separate trigger? Wouldn't that record your snare into the pattern, and also record the scene change to the track? Or you want the snare hits as midi notes in ableton? And I guess it's more clunky having to to do a whole scene just for a fill...timothyallan wrote:You can trigger scenes, but not patterns via midi.

lol yeah, it gets ugly trying to improvise with Maschine and record it.
i.e. If I have A-H all playing and want to play different patterns for each one, and record it into my track? I'd have to pre-program 64 scenes beforehand and remember which scene actually contained which patterns... nightmare.
Maschine is good for a lot of things, but strangely, recording performances for later playback from your DAW isn't one of them.

agreed. it would be great if recorded pattern changes. I rarely use scenes with Maschine, and it seems rather dated that it has to be done by sending midi messages to trigger scenes.... surely it should be able to send the midi information on each of the patterns to separate midi channels in the arrange window.timothyallan wrote:lol yeah, it gets ugly trying to improvise with Maschine and record it.

This is really killing me. I've had the maschine for about a week and i'm stunned there is not a way of doing this. totally kills the way i want to work with it.timothyallan wrote:And you still can't record a performance and have it play back, even with 1.6

Me as well. I'd just assumed it would be easy to do before I bought it, so I never even thought about investigating it beforehand!

I still think they are going to adress this in the update possibly, it's been requested allot and they said that the update feature list is not final so there's still a chance. i hate using work arounds for stuff like this that should have been there from the get go but that said we've got the best combo for such things so far, instead of all the midi work arounds I just do the record to audio thing and it's really a peach to clean up everything afterwards thanks to live, and don't forget you can still swing and quantize audio in live. for me this is better than rerouting midi and native instruments will def get to it eventually, they know their whole songmode or lack of needs vamping

I think the best way to go would be if they allowed notes to trigger patterns on multiple midi channels. Then you could route 8 different midi tracks to Maschine and trigger the patterns of each of the 8 groups from a different track.
