Even if an intelligent self aware computer exited that could write music, what would it write music about? What would be it's inspiration? and would anybody be interested in listening to it beyond it's novelty value?

Now tell me that humanity is inspired to create and appreciate art beyond the wit of machines. I'm betting a 486 with 32meg of ram could think up a better set of songs than that lot.

pretty much, yeah. Just doesn't look up when I make kissy noises any more. He's still pretty alert in every other way though, so I don't think it's a mental thing.

Also he started doing this loud wailing from time to time which is apparently a sign of deafness. He stops it as soon as you look at him.

I bet we could look down our "most recently played" tunes and categorise them as "could easily have been created by machine" or could not have been created by machine.

looking down mine, unless somebody is writing an AI that collides Iggy Pop with Leonard Cohen and Brian Eno they are out of luck.
