But that's just not going to happen despite what the Kore whiners say. Here's what Thomas @ NI wrote recently:
"Excluding Kore from the future roadmap gives the developers more time for all the other products, so in that sense it makes further discontinuations less likely in the first place.
Actually Battery as well as all other current products will continue to be developed for a long time to come, with absolutely no plans to the contrary. You can take that as an official word from me."

Yeah? Thomas at NI is a moderator, right? Read what the founder of NI (Stephan Schmitt) said about Kore about two years before they axed it:

Buuuut if THOMAS at NI says it will be Native Instruments super-product then I of course I believe him. I mean - he probably have more to say about things like that than Mr Reaktor himself

Yeah - I'm most definately a Kore-whiner. I'm also a Kore-wino and a Kore-wiener. That's just how things are.

Until support gets dropped and technology buries the software, leaving Maschine a PadKontrol with more knobs.
Just to remind us all that NI's business traits are very relevant to the discussion.

Yep, NI has a track record of abandoning software, and Thomas I'm certain is not capable of guaranteeing anything in the way of discontinuations.
Intakt, Bandstand and Kompakt were all based on Kontakt, and that didn't stop NI from discontinuing them, so what with Maschine steadily replacing Battery, I have no doubt that in two years Battery is toast. Don't care what Thomas says, NI have a long pattern of this. People who don't acknowledge this obviously haven't used their products for 8+ years, that's all.
Love their software, hate their business strategies.

So you don't buy a software or an hybrid controller because in 5 or 10 years it will be discontinued?
I do the same things with my underwears. I don't buy any because in 3 years they will be too old and I will have to buy new one. So what's the point hey...

Well, I don't buy $600 underwear. I'm a simple man.
I would buy a Launchpad, APC, or Livid controller, though. I feel like Ableton is gonna keep Live around for a while.

Let's keep it in the music realm shall we?
I have a Memorymoog poly analog synth since I was 17, and the same Gibson Les Paul for 20 years now. They still function as advertised.
Digital Performer my other favorite DAW can open projects from 1998 I was working on, completely different OS and chipset, no problem.
Zebra I bought from U-He in 2003 for $79, because I was an early adaptor the upgrade to Zebra 2 was $29. Urs coded Zebra 1 for Intel Macs years later in his spare time not out of any financial concern, but just because that's the kind of person he is.
Love NI software, hate the fact they abandon it when the cash dries up.

Yeah, that's the beauty of DP, it's a huge ugly DAW compared to Live, but it's eminently backwards compatible.
I would bet Live would do the same if you only had it's internal plug ins in a set though. Not sure? I've never had any issues with opening older projects in Live though, just that it wants you to save the project as a different file.

I get it, ni likes to lov'em and leave'em but I like'em to love me then go
no seriously I do understand but for us samplist it's been that way for eons for some of our most favorite gear outslde of live. you won't find any samplist complaining that their gear is 20-30 years old and doesn't have more than 6- 40 seconds of sample time in it, not to mention allot of us are still fine and dandy using floppy disk to save music on, , so for these kind of people ni could discontinue maschine after the 2.0 update and it wouldn't matter one bit as long as it does what it says on the tin.
