Here's my opinion of where it came from and why it'll never die....

Drugs.
Isn't that why it's dead?
All the cool people are now super depressed from taking 15 pills a night.

I'd say if they were doing 15 pills a night, they were probably dead from the neck up in the beginning....

I personally have no respect for anything that relies on substance use/abuse to appreciate and enjoy it.

IMO, truly talented music stands alone without the 'crutch' of drugs.

Having said that, everything on my iPod DOES sound better when I'm blasting around the forest on my mountain bike (must be the endorphin thing), but it doesn't seem to be enough to help me to appreciate the repetitious monotony of the techno I've been trying to listen to. Maybe I'm listening to the wrong stuff...

Drugs.

Pure and simple.

Repetition in music seems to be prevelant through the use of drugs, so when drugs don't exist, neither will techno or any other manifestation of the genre.

To the question at hand....Fuck what anyone else thinks, just do what you gotta do and what makes you happy.

I have some 909 samples if your interested.... ......yawn
That is bullshit man.
Jeff Mills, Mike Banks, Kevin Saundersnon, Robert Hood, Juan Atkins, the fathers of techno don't to drugs.
They are rather religious people who love music, you should study the history of techno before saying stuff like that.
the afore mentioned artist are or have been active for 20+ years maybe, I don't think they would have managed it if the were coke- or extasy tards, you know?
The fact is that, like it or not, believe it or not, the strict connection between drug and techno (house to be more precise) started in England, yes.
House came in UK when extasy was booming in europe.

And what about the monotone african rhythyms?
Are the all African percussion players always on pills? I don't think so.

Techno is technology nothing more nothing less, music made by TECHNOlogy.

So this means any kind of music made with technology is techno music?
So Brintey Spears is techno? 50 Cent is techno? Black Eyed Peas? All of this music is made with lots of new technology. Samplers, FX, Compression, newest and most expensive hardware, new drum machines ,etc.

Techno and drugs,is all in the eye of the beholder.

Techno has nothing to do with drugs, no music has something to do with drugs anyway.
If your mind laks so much fantasy that u have to take drugs to enjoy music, of to dance on it, thats fucked up anyway.
Whats wrong with a natural high.
