Maybe also an opportunity to deal with the 'orange dot'....

i.e.: modifier+spacebar
We already have both shift and option as modifiers with spacebar (shift for "continue rather than restart", and option for "play arranger selection").

to be honest, this start-in-the-middle-of-the-beat is such an unwanted feature, that putting it in the options.txt is prob the most desirable.

no point in coding a fancy user interface for something that people seem by majority not to want.

i vote for putting a line in options.txt :

ClipStartWhereStopped=1

something like that. lets keep it simple and use the dev time to fix the remaining bugs.

How do you use Live ? (nothing personal)
Can somenone explain briefly how that options.txt works, or point me to a link.

I don't see why this would have to be in the Preferences pane. Couldn't it be available in a dropdown menu, like Plug in Delay Compensation?

madlab - i use live during gigs in Session view.
playing a mixtiure of tracks and clips.

i want all my clips to start at the beginning (retrigger)

in the studio, i use session view then move over to Arrangement view when i'm ready to start putting stuff down permanently.

The options.txt is how the developers have their extra settings for Live. none of them really *need* to be changed. but it is one possible way to incorporate extra functionality without a GUI change.

i think there is something on the Ableton site about options.txt and also on this forum.

I personally like supster's idea about clip behaviour settings. But that does suggest that it is a desirable clip behaviour which users will access frequently to vary start/stop options. It doesn't sound like many people want to be able to vary this on a daily basis... :)

Also, doesn't the "starts in the middle of the beat" option relate to clip behaviour as controlled from a recorded arrangement?

If Stefan is reporting that Ableton are not prepared to make this an "easy-to-reach" user modification, can we at least have the default behaviour of Live set to OFF for the crazy starts-in-the-middle clip behaviour? I don't want to start messing around with option.txt just to get Live to play in a sensible way...

My 2p. :) And thanks for listening Ableton. Ask first next time!!!

Please Ableton , change it and let start the clips at 1.1.1.

when someone like others, make a change option, but first give an update or patch, to let start clips at the 1.
