keep in mind this is a 3-4 year old laptop. and it's on par with newer g4 power books. I'm somewhat impressed. why are mac's so slow?

mac are slow because they do everything 9 time to make sure they got it right. and they are full of jam.

Live isn't optimized to run on osX, altivec or something like that. Things I don't really understand. I do understand that I am very happy with my machine though!

Win XP Pro SP1
RME Digiface
- with outputs 1/2 and s/pdif input enabled only
test 1 : 1%
test 2 : 5%
- with all 26 inputs and outputs enabled :
test 1 : 4%
test 2 : 8%
so it seems the asio driver roughly eats 3% cpu max at full throttle
(i tried on my dual 800 g4 and it ate 40% of one cpu !!!)

With the exception of Matthew Dear, I think all the artists at this weekend's Once Twice festival in Baltimore used Macs or turntables for the sound and video they created. Fair number of people involved, too.
