Frank Zappa`s band around `74 with George Duke, Napoleon Murphy Brock, the Fowlers and Ruth Underwood....
Just go and listen to the Helsinki Concert or Roxy & Elsewhere

interesting the number of votes for Depeche mode

especially when considering where they came from

Basildon, Essex is a pimple on the arsehole of Britain, overwhelmingly populated by these nasty little blighters:

which led me to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ned_(Scottish)

and amused me no end to ponder who those people are in that picture and whether they know they are on Wikipedia as an example of Neds.

probably not the "best bands ever" but those who influenced me the most :D
early jamiroquai (traveling without moving included... bassists know what I'm talking about )
smashing pumpkins
NIN (even though it is not really a band)
archive (their first album, londinium)
radiohead
sonic youth
erik truffaz quartet
... jizz impossible to choose only one

A second vote for Troublefunk... I'm sure best band means a lot of different things to everyone, but for me Troublefunk springs to mind first.

I saw Prince last Saturday at the O2 and he was rubbish.

My vote for best band would have to go to the Motown in house band - the one with the funk brothers. Too many classics.
