ya see, that's the point.. as far as you see it..
but there are people in this thread who think different about what to use for drums and what suits them better..

hehe,
then we agree even more; subjectivity and the way people approach these problems are a key factor here, non?
ya see Andy, there are alot of things I cannot explain that easy through the web because user interaction can take pages to describe..
heck, most of the time I cannot even describe them to myself because there's just only this voice that says 'this ain't right'..
anywayzzz.. gimme Impulse 2.0 and I'm a happy camper..
cheers.. M.
I think Drum Racks are one of the coolest features a DAW came out with in the last few years or so. They are great for building Drum kits. I make Drum Kits a lot quicker now.
Are they perfect, No. There are improvements that could be made, but for the most part, they are fairly easy to set up and gets me going a lot quicker.
I always thought Impulse wasn't deep enough and used Battery instead. Now I hardly ever use Battery, its all Drum Racks. I rarely use Impulse though.

that's why I think drumracks lean more towards the massive sample packs or ppl who really like to sculp their sounds with Sim/Sampler + chained devices..
but this is the crazy thing - if you are going to do it that way then you are better off just using it on it's own normal track, grouping them together so you can hide them and save space
I didnt use to think it was too bad using a SImpler for 1 drum sound if it was on it's own on a track
agreed.. grouped tracks will solve alot of issues..

but for just simple playback and doing a tweak or two I think that a stripped down sample device that sort of has the feature set of Impulse would be great..
as jamester said:
..a one-pad "mini-pulse" device, which would be the default Drum Rack pad instrument..
problem with that is the parameters take up the full length of the current Impulse - so how would you fit it all in? You might as well just use a full Impulse
I assumed it can be much more compact, and eventually smaller then a drumrack filled with Simplers..
using the mini dials for the most important parameters and the value sliders for less important could already slim it down alot..
I think the concept of Drum Racks goes far beyond just being able to Group SoftSynths.
The most important thing (to me) is being able to easily create keymaps that are not limited to one octave or just the white keys. Impulse's setup just didn't feel natural when playing the kits on just white keys.
Also another thing (the reason they chose Simpler as the default) was to easily be able to trim your samples. I have a lot of untrimmed samples with air in them and the Drum Rack setup gets me going faster than anything other software has came out with yet.
But like Anything Drum Racks could use improvements. I think a lot of Drum Racks shortcomings has little to do with the Drum Racks themselves but in Live's interface (its way of handling softsynths).

Just wondering (and at the risk of derailing the derail) - is there a way to easily export the samples out of a drumrack, for use in other drum software ( e.g. RMIV,)? I searched the help, did not find anything. As it stands i could record a loop, and cut that up; would be nicer to have the samples pre-cut in a folder somewhere.

as you can see the loop is not cropped per Simpler..
you can crop the loop in Simpler by contextual mouse click in the sample window..
the crops are placed in the processed/crop folder so you can acces them from there..

that's maybe because the folder isn't there until you crop something..
cheers..
