NI Komplete is double the price, you don't expect that from them do you?

in fact your post probably is a really good illustration of why Live should have maybe focused ONLY on live features and not even go there on DAW things - becuause by making themselves a DAW then people expect certain things that all other DAWs provide - and every one of those requests is a distraction from the original purpose of a LIVE application

1. SNAPSHOT / STATE feature in order to capture the state of the settings you have at a given time and recall them realtime at anytime at a press of a button.

Example1: you have a delay effect with different delay times you'd like to alternate as you track is playing.
Example2: different settings of your soft synth or even different patches of your synth.
Example3: you have a number of clips playing (not in the same scene) and then change to another number of clips.

In general, something to capture the state of settings in live you've done up to that point. Preferably the ability to capture as many states as possible and recall them by pressing a button.

An important question is how Live 8 will stand up against some of the recent updates to the competition. For example, the ACID Pro 7 update is HUGE. Also Pro Tools 8 is HUGE (and Digidesign have now got all the elastic audio, warp markers stuff done even better than Ableton). These updates are larger than their predecessors in scope, and I wonder whether Ableton can sijmilarly come up with something that will grab the headlines.

I suspect that they will not, because they seem to have become a little more entrenched in their attitude over the last couple of years, and I don't expect to see much change from *them* as a company.

Anyway, ... I do expect to see:

* a vocoder!
* groove quantise
* dual monitor support
* 128 VST parameters selectable
* new timestretch (?elastique pro)
* Improvements to External Instrument (i.e. MIDI CC stuff)

I'm guessing we *might* see (but will probably have to wait for Live 9):

* MIDI timing issue solved (they would rather keep refering you to the MIDI fact sheet and ignore it)
* auto-cross fades
* folder tracks

I'm guessing a longer wait for:

* OSC
* Better MIDI sequencing
* Rewire slave/VST support issue
* surround mixing

yeah, I'm expecting arrange cross-fades and grouping. would be pretty embarrassing if those don't make it into the next version (AGAIN).

Since NI Komplete is not a DAW I wouldn't expect that from them, but Logic and Live are both DAWs and IMO it's fair to expect similar features. After all, Logic Studio has live features added to it, so why not add more DAW features to Live? But I could be wrong about this, and probably I am. I'll wait and see what new features they add to Live and then make my decision on what I will spend my money on, a Live upgrade or Logic Studio.

well yeah Ableton are going after the DAW market too, but their flagship product was originally for Live performance, which is a different paradigm

and I think that is exactly the point - by competing then they get comments like yours about certain features being essential - so they have to put time and energy into developing them that they can't put into developing Live features

competing with the other DAWs is a major can of worms for a program intended for Live use - hence the reason a lot of people question how far they should go with video - as soon as they go past a certain point then they will be flooded with feature requests for features that Arkaos has etc etc.....

that's the only thing that bothers me at the moment and it really needs fixing.

I reckon they are going to go back to their roots of being a live performance tool.. the last update was very much catching up with other DAW's and i remember reading an article ages ago with Gerhard explaining something about going back to where they started ?
