So can you only get the reflective screen with the MBP? If so that is awful!

I doubt that. What I meant was, it doesn't matter wether you put one, two or three FW ports on a computer, in all cases you need one FW chip (the ports are only daisy chained on one FW bus anyway).

Instead we get new more expensive laptops and a price drop on the plastic MacBook that is an insult (and a price increase in the UK and other countries). Everyone was expecting a product launch that would leave the opposition trembling, instead they're just pissing themselves laughing.

Not sure any of it will dent sales though. People always seem to have money for beer and over priced flash looking products made by Apple.

Though I really can't figure out how they can justify the new £719 price for the plastic MacBook. Compare it to other leading brands and its at least £200 over priced and there's nothing too special about it.
Umm...I just watched a whole video where they went into great detail about how the new macbook is made of...aluminum.

They are still selling the plastic MacBook, and it is 719 pounds.

It would be good if they could use the optical audio IO for ADAT, not just S/PDIF. I guess upgrading the driver to a more 'pro' standard isn't gonna happen though.

My first impression was... hey, that looks like a Sony Vaio!

:(

Pretty sad. The old plastic MacBook was such a good thing for Abletoners. I'll wait until I look at one in person, but I'm not liking the glassy nature of the new MBP. It's like they took a step forward in what they think is good aesthetics, but did not make an inch of progress for creative professionals.

I've been saving for a long time to update my PowerBook. I won't be buying any time soon. I'd likely buy a used MacBook Pro before I got one of the new ones.

BUTT... we'll see. I wasn't planning to use FW400 anyhow. I'm all about using an RME MultiFace II and a FW800 drive. Maybe my opinion will change when I get to try one out in person.

It's just a sad day for the MI industry. Most of the pro audio manufacturers must be really upset. Even RME with the FireFace series. We can only hope that Apple wakes up and does two things that they have done in the past:

1) quickly include a FW400 port on a new machine that they had denied a FW400 in the first generation
2) dropped the price $200 a month or two later and said a big old WHOOPS SORRY!

Bummer.

Lookit this thing:

kinda sexy, but sadly glossy.

thats the problem with going with a closed platform like Apple, you have to accept whatever they give you.

Im not sure what all the hate is about the glossy screen though, the last couple of laptops Ive had have been glossy as, and I have absolutely zero problems with it.

its not great for direct sunlight, but who uses their laptop in direct sunlight? im typing this next to a window and i can see my reflection but i can also see the screen with perfect clarity.

Look at how reflective this that is!

They might. There was one iteration of the MBP that had no firewire 800 port on it, & the next gen had it replaced. Hope springs eternal!

OOOH! Let's do it!

I propose we start a letter/email campaign demanding apple add FW to the next gen. macbooks. Maybe to add FW 400 back on the MBP's, too?
+1

Everytime I use the laptops at work that have tap to click turned on, I always end up tapping and dragging things I don't want to. It's going to make using these lappies live a nightmare for me.

Does anyone here use there touchpad live with tap-to-click on? Do you get use to it?

J
Tap to click is a REAL motherfucker when using DAW stuff.
You can always get a BT Mouse. I did with my MacBook. Never used the touch pad. I hate touch pads.
