I use Live a lot for both production or "studio created tracks," just scored 2 short films for the Louisiana Film prize festival as a hobby, while going to work and putting in long hours there doing animation.

Yet I got into Live by friends trying to get me to ditch my old sampler and Roland XP60 to get a Laptop and use this Ableton Live 2.0 b.s.
I was apprehensive about computers, period, but after seeing them record and playback loops in a bunch of ways using a bunch of built in effects, plus some Reaktor stuff, on stage, I was like "hell yeah!"
specially coming from a space rock scene where I had a shit ton of guitar pedals, and a few cheap synths, and I was making old school dub at a weekly at a club.

It was kind of sold to me as a way to turn your Laptop into an instrument, by my friends as well as Ableton marketing.
I have loved all the features they have upgraded over the years.
however in regards to performance there are crucial yet simple, missing pieces. (i.e. storing and recalling all settings and parameters on a track, per clip)
I feel like Traktors midi editor is a great example that should raise the bar on midi preferences and the ability to address many controllers for performance.
If Traktor gave vst support (integraded maschine, and updated maschine) and warping instead of "gridding," they would move this 'performance' idea way ahead.
Jurys still out on Bitwig.

I dont care which company moves more into that direction, I just wish one of them would.
Hardware is really expensive.
I want my Laptop to balance some of my needs, taking production ideas into more of a realtime ultra fast workflow for perfroming fucked up Live electronic based music.
These implementations would only enhance the production side of it.

+ mf 1000000000
Live right now feels clumsy and bloated..
not at all what I was experiencing when I jumped ship from Cubase/Protools 5 years ago..
the workflow issues seems to have taken a back seat.. I think..
and Bitwig is trying to capitalize on that..
here's to hoping L9 will remedy..

Dear BW,

Please title your emails "You haven't been picked yet" instead of "Beta testing has started!".

I'm running out of things to break.

Thank you.

Same here. 10 emails exactly the same. Not 1 invite :(
