I can understand your situation, and maybe if i was only using live then i'd consider a PC (though personally i would love to see a linux version of live, then you'd really see those AMD chips perform)

However i don't ONLY use live and I'm sure like many others, i can't imagine being able to make the music i'm interested in using only live. without tools like supercollider, metasynth, GRM tools, max/msp, soundhack, and audiosculpt i'd find it very hard to make the noises i'm interested in and i'd still be stuck waiting for someone to write a VSTi that did what i want.

Live's a great tool and it's certainly a big part of the way i put my music together, but it's not the sole source of my sounds.

so in those situations personally i'm very very glad i have my powerbook.

You use your computer only for music?

I don't - MP3 library, word processing + layout, note keeping, building web sites, Ruby programming, web surfing, e-mail, IM, images, and tonnes of other stuff - and I *need* Unix...

no course i use it for all that stuff , well ,word processin note keeping , one day web sites, games , putting songs on my AHEM ipod ... haha..-- but ive got partions . for music making, its audio only aps, theres nothing else installed there.. the one i am on now has got everything else, and all the above stuff is done in third party stuff anyways the OS is really irrelavent to me.. (but it is good that live runs really well on it.) the job always gets done. you trying to say you can somehow do it easier on "panther" or "tiger" haha

Why? When one can do it all? Besides, I don't want to be lugging around three laptops so that when I go to a lecture I pull out one and when I want to make a beat on the train I have to take out another - defeats the purpose, don't it?

And MacOSX doesn't give a rat's backside if you have a million and three image processing apps installed next to Live... another reason to love it.

Yes I'd say it's a superior operating system... but I doubt you (one) would know without trying it.

ive messed about on it, in a museum near me, and my sister used to work for a website called ammo city and i spent the day there messing about on them... , cant see how i can email better on osx using my yahoo account tho..... or how illustrator might work bettr in osx or something.. (besides rendering times)

Yeah I've seen some "nupower" upgrade stuff for my old Powerbook but its usually around £300 notes for only a G4 500.... Anyway with a new DVD drive costing £700 from Apple there's no point really, better off buying a new PC... Lazy but I don't really have the time to hunt for second hand stuff either...

£300 for only a G4 500 upgrade !!!*££**???
£150 for a new motherboard and current top spec P4 chip....
