it is quite funny to see someone say that live won't be as stable as a linear daw simply because it isnt linear. A lot of people only use the linear recording in live anyways..

I dont know anything about code, but I would be astonished if that is indeed a true fact fish monkey.

That being said, fishmonkey's thought process is about the most elegant defense of the quandary with Ableton. There are challenges there that I can certainly appreciate. I'd even go as far as to backtrack off my dismissal of this comment after further thought:
beatz01 wrote:The solution would be so simple: Make 2 slightly different versions of each Live release; one for Push users, optimised for Push, the other for everyone else.

Problem solved.
If it really is some kind of tradeoff due to needing to prioritize/optimize process threads for the live aspect of the software, I would be ok with two different 'versions' of Live. Perhaps more specifically than what beatz01 stated, but essence is the same:

- A version aimed and optimized for Live Performance, perhaps with greater restrictions on quality/stability for M4L devices used in conjunction

- Producer Edition that is a bit more relaxed, so to speak, on the priority/demand in comparison.

I don't know. Honestly it sounds like a band-aid solution, but I would say there is 'something' there that could be explored.

The thing that I keep coming back around to though, is the lack of communication on the part of the Devs, as well as commonality of the issues that are being reported. There is a thing we all check for when buying retail software, and that would be the System Requirements. One should have a reasonable expectation if they are within those requirements to have a solid experience. Is that fair?

In tech-support-land, there is something that's called a 'known issue' In essence it's acknowledges that there is an problem causing unintended behavior, be it the fault of a bug in the code, a hardware/software combination, or a 3rd party driver. With all the crash reports and email support that the Ableton team takes in, should we not have an idea of what the 'known issues' with Ableton are?

If it is something in Ableton's code, for instance, why not alert its users on this board, and let us know they are working towards a fix while giving us a somewhat periodic update. If it was something regarding a 3rd party driver, VST, MIDI script or whatever, why not make that information readily available to us so we can adjust accordingly. We don't really know much until after the fact.

By hiding from the forum and not filling us in on this type of information, all it does is lead to a ton of speculation and confusion. I.e. this thread. And really its just not a good look. Why have a forum but to establish just that type of dialogue with your user base? Still stand firm that for the pricetag we deserve better than this. We'll see how it goes.

and now push is the problem with lives stability...

lol not one person has provided solid evidence that lives performance is worse for having both linear and non linear recording. There are people who have stated technologies that Microsoft and apple do not support but do not give any reason as to why this effects linear or non linear processing.

Again, I literally know nothing about coding. But it seems like people are really trying to stretch verbatim they have picked up from sources as to combust a flame for a fire that doesn't actually exist in the first place.

I have read your problems, you and many others, including myself, are not experiencing an optimal ableton live experience. When people are angry they tend to ignore facts and absorb more opinions from like-minded people as facts.

Im not saying I'm right, but does anybody have any proof that. "Ableton will never be as stable as a linear daw" or that if a version of live with push and a version of live without push would actually change stability? How do you know this? Please share.

If Live crashes all the time it's Abletons way of saying you should spend your time not trying to make music.

The world can always use more chefs and they are a universal symbol of lost souls (ie bedroom producers) that finally found their calling. Godspeed and I look forward to eating at your restaurant.

I endorse this post. I've always wanted to run a hot-dog stand.

I'm in the process of learning how to make salsa at home, and Bic Macs at work.

Mmmmm salsa. Cure for all me woes.
