The good thing about music is that it doesn't matter which platform you use. It's whatever works for you.
I for one just happen to like the simplicity and stability of Macs. When I first started using computers (a long time ago!), Macs WERE ridiculously overpriced, and I used PCs. My day job forced me into Macs and, in my opinion, they aren't that much more expensive than PCs any more, unless you're after raw power.
I hope the Macintels will be reasonably priced, or I may join you in the PC world!

Now I ADMIT I feel a slight satisfaction at the leveling of the playing field, for sure. It is one step closer to making the dream accessible to those who aren't at such an economic advantage, and it validates their input.
I agree.
I have always been open minded about Mac... and when it came time to purchase my new laptop, I looked at the PowerBook first.... before deciding on a PC.
I found the sales people at the Apple store to be a HUGE turnoff. I explained to them what I needed the laptop for, and that I was considering both Apple and PC. I told them that if everything were equal, I would choose Mac... but rather than give a pleasant comparison between the two platforms... the sales people just went into violent attacks of PCs. In fact... the first girl I talked to laughed when I mentioned PCs.... and then yelled across the room to the other employee... "Hey... hahaa... this guy is thinking about a PC"
They used the following arguments:
1. Mac is twice as fast as a PC.... so you can't compare clock speed of the CPU. (I agreed with them that the RISC architecture is more efficient than a Pentium 4... but I then asked them about the other parts that make up computer performance.... ie, hard drive speed, RAM speed) They did not have answers for these questions.
2. They said the PowerBook has a higher resolution screen than any PC laptop. This is absolutely, 110% false.
3. They said PCs all crash, so you never want to use one in a live performance and get the "blue screen of death". That's a great argument.... except for the fact that I've been using PCs for 15+ years, and never once had a blue screen.... so this argument is wasted on me.
I know these people are just doing a job, and they're using the tactics the corporation teaches them to use.
The unfortunate reality is that Apple no longer holds that performane edge they use to.... so the arguments these sales people were making no longer hold water.
They did manage to irritate me, however.... with their violent attitude towards PCs. I merely wanted some technical information on the PowerBook explained to me to aid in my decision.
To draw a parallel... when I bought my new car back in November.... I went and test drove several different brands of cars. I told each sales person about the other cars I was comparing against. None of these sales people badmouthed the other brands... they simply talkd about their cars and the features/benefits. These are obviously good sales people, because they know that being inflammatory is not the way to win someone over.
But Apple has based its whole marketing campaign on negative advertising. They teach these sales people to badmouth PCs any chance they get... sometimes it works... but I think many times it does not. It did not work for me, that's for sure.
