DP4 supports multiple audio cards at their own rates. So if you use the stock mac sound card with a MOTU, the motu can have its own setings and the mac its own as well.

So, on a mac with core audio, the answer is that it can support multiple out puts -whether Live will is unknown.

i want two sessions and the ability to cross-fade between them! but this would also be pretty good.

jack ii

Post by SongCarver » Wed Jun 09, 2004 10:06 am

have you guys heard about Jack?
http://jackit.sourceforge.net/

Jack has a virtual driver which will allow you to make your two interfaces look like one. lots of possibilities.

warning, you will take some performance hit, and I have heard some rare problems where jack has been installed and has caused problems, requiring an uninstall.

hope that helps, K

More tempo control.

Post by SongCarver » Wed Jun 09, 2004 10:14 am

Hiya Abletons,

Q. Does L4 have any improved tempo control techniques?

I am playing loops in a live fluid jazz quintet and the current tempo controls are really hard to use.

A push/pull on the pitchwheel would be great - pull it down and the tempo will drop up to 15%...let go and back to original tempo!

Also, if you pull it down and HOLD it there, it will gradually make the 'snap back to' tempo drop as well.

You can use it quickly to move your in-time beat in LINE.

Or

Move it down and hold it to make simple permanent tempo adjustments.

One last thing, tap tempo is great, but we would love to be able to have a way of differentiating the '1'..2.3..4. like a different note for the first beat please?

Anything like the above implemented?

you can already do this - I only discovered it recently - in the arrange page if you go to the master track and choose tempo it has minimum and maximim tempo boxes - so you key in for the max 15% more than your project tempo then for min 15% less or whatever, then theproject tempo will correspond to the pitch wheel's center

I would lke to see the option of having 'latch' or 'nudge' mode so if you push it forward or back it could be like nudging or braking a turntable

either that or make the first warp marker midi assignable and give it the same min/max options as the master tempo - perhaps this would need the creation of a new 'master' warp marker also so that you could still do it even if the audio file is sliced up with many warp markers (rather than midi assigning marker 1 and only being able to move the first slice)

nice one, Forge.
I agree with all the braking stuff.
Thanks for the hint, i never knew that. Still could do with some improvements!

And I'll say my big Congratulations to Ableton for this one. well done guys.

Two Questions

Post by dfusion » Wed Jun 09, 2004 5:21 pm

Question 1: Will Simpler have multiple outputs so the bass drum can be on one mixer channel, snare on another, hi-hat on another, similar to the way Redrum (Reason) can go into the mixer?

Question 2: Can the midi sequencer in Live 4 be detached and made into a larger display? Or is it in a fixed position on the screen?

Regards,
-d

Q. Can the scenes change the time signature as well as the tempo ?

ie, can a scene change the overall time signature from 4/4 to say a Chorus in 6/8?

thanks

Q: Will it be possible to set the "play" marker where a clip begins playing when triggered outside of the boundaries of the loop markers?

For example, you have a four bar clip, the first two bars are an intro or "pickup" kind of thing that you would like to have play one single time, and the second two bars you would like to loop.

I realize there are other ways to accomplish the same effect, but it would be sweet if you could do it this way. Thanks.
