some people just thrive on hostility - it's why we have the troll blocker
once you start using it it's surprisingly effective because you occasionally unblock people to see if they are starting to offer anything worthwhile and they pretty much always arent
sometimes I look at the blank X and wonder what the fuck I'm doing and why do I care enough to block anyone, but it's actually kind of like when you have a really irritating dog next door that doesnt stop barking at every fucking thing that moves - if you had a mute button for it you'd use it
TITBAG is one I havent blocked though because he actually makes me laugh
personally, I think the troll blocker is the worst kind of insult. To imagine that people have enough time to a) write the script and b) others have the time to use it to block people who's posts they weren't going to read anyway...??
Sad.
And THEN to wonder why there is hostility?
Who decides who is a troll on a whim? the same people who would blank someone who's opinions they might deem beneath them in real life.
just plain insulting and hostile by its very existence.
FWIW, I think the forum has improved recently. (I recently changed user name) Since the right wing idiots and the religious idiots seem to have disappeared I've decided to come back for a while, theres actually some decent ableton related info coming on now.
Noobs still getting ignored of course but there we go, what can you expect? They'll probably only get Troll killed anyway...

I do like a big discussion though. On everything.
Even though the religious people can barely take them.. allways ends up funny such stuff
But there is a difference between a discussion and a flamewar, and thats where the trolls are defined (just my personal opinion).
The problem comes when people block the others viewpoints and ignores them if they don't have the same opinions, instead of discussing them. I suppose i could call them hopeless ignorants, even (whoops do i hear ignore buttons being pressed?).
If you can't even arguement for your viewpoints then you shouldn't be allowed to have any. OF COURSE this goes both ways, both to the ignorants and the real trolls who are just as ignorant, not willing to pick up new ideas but keeps yelling about their own.

And to think I've been wasting these last 6 hours working on music.
Where are my priorities?
I agree with bounce.

No. The troll killer script was written by Nebulae among others, as far as I remember now, because the level of abuse he was getting from b0unce was getting a bit out of hand. Actually b0unce seemed not to post too much for a while after that, and to be honest (I know he doesn't mind) the forum *to me* seemed to be a better place for a while. Once the troll killer script was made, there didn't seem to be a need for it at all.
I've recently started to block b0unce, and only him, because sometimes (most of the time) the way he goes on here is just not worth the hassle. I don't feel bad about it, I know he won't mind, and I probably won't do it forever. I come here to hang out with musicians and talk about shit, generally to relax/feed my brain, and I find the majority of the time I won't learn from what he says (my fault perhaps) and it will literally aggravate me, even as a passive reader/lurker. But if I have seen an interesting topic that I think that particular user's thoughts would be interesting to read, I'll unblock. I don't really see how any of this could offend you?
I did unblock him for this thread too - and he made a valid point: what hostility is Neb referring to? The Nazi thing? I will admit I avoided the big Winehouse thread but after seeing some of the suicide-related threads recently it has been a bit of a wake-up call that the words we write here (and they're only words*) can have a direct and major positive or negative impact on peoples' (musicians') lives.
TBH I don't really need a reason why Nebulae made the request. It's a perfectly valid one & it's a shame more is being made of who said it than the point itself.
*and words are all I have to take your heart away.

start counting and stop guessing, fool
about the newsletter. A lot of people seem to find my thoughts interesting and i actually DID think of doing something like that, but then i realized how much i hate blogs in general so i didn't do it

So i just discuss over various forums and using messenger for that sake. And of course in real life too, but its hard to meet intelligent people out there...

I think you should start a newsletter.
I'd subscribe.
The folks who use forums as blogs must perish.
Rozling:
how can I have a point (what hostility?)
and Neb too (why the hostility?)
someone quote me so the tosspot gets my message

I don't use the forums as blogs, i comment the subjects i pass by

99% of the time started by others though. But nothing wrong in a nice discussion, makes you see things a different way!
