People commenting on Fox News' article about the release of the new "The Daily" News Corp subscription iPad app.

Click on the small Comments link before or after the article. Gloriously horrifying.

yeah... so does forum.ableton.com
*shrugs* meh.
the most thought provoking post on the page was the one talking about all the crazy ass world events that are going on while one more app in the sea of apps is considered big news.
wow.

No way dude. That was clearly made my somebody who sits between Apple hater and complete indifference. You go to any news site and there's probably 50+ links to news articles just from the front page. They can't all be about the world's big problems.
THE most thought provoking post was by the guy who is championing getting a law past that if you live off the system for over a year then you should lose the right to vote.

There could be a lot of discussion on that one.

All I know is that every single 'news' app I've tried - BBC, CNN, NPR, etc etc etc etc - are complete SHIT.
They hold my interest for about 2.6sec, and then I'm back to the regular newspaper/tv news websites via the Atomic Browser.
The news apps are nothing short of 'cliffnote' versions of the news. Stories are limited and clearly spoonfed to the viewer in some sort of bizarre social engineering plot that I can't really make heads nor tails of and probably doesn't exist but that's sure as shit what it FEELS like. The BBC app is a classic example:
Open BBC News app. Check out the story offerings for each catagory.
Now go the BBCNews.com. The same catagories have a shitload more stories, and most are MORE INTERESTING and MORE RELEVANT.
I'm telling ya, the handpicking of newsworthiness in the apps is a vast conspiracy of.....of....something.

i didn't see many... maybe there was more than one section to expand... i doubt its worth going back to find out.
case and point. 'loose the right to vote if you live off the system for a year'. i'm not a gambling man, but i bet a large portion of folks that show up at the polls are not on welfare of any kind. to put it another way... i bet most folks that are living off the system for more than a year don't vote.
besides here we are again. you go to the news to read about an app and end up reading posts. next you'll be going to read posts and start writing about apps.

OH SHIT!

True that but politics, especially from the conservative side, is more about perceived threat than hard facts.
Conservatives: These mooches shouldn't have the right to help shape policy!
Liberals: Even drains on society should have the right to help make policies that will help them become self reliant, despite the fact that they generally don't help make polices or take advantage of the policies already in place that would help them become self reliant.

I don't go to foxnews to read up on actual news. I go there sometimes to read the readership's comments on "news" to remind me of what I need to be scared of.
While we do have Mac vs. PC wars on here and political debates, I don't think I've ever seen a thread attempting to combine both.

In other news I never got the clamcase for the iPad that I ordered in late December and they took the funds out of my bank days later. When I inquired in early January they said they didn't have a ship date but I should receive an email within a week letting me know about planned shipping. That never happened. So this morning I emailed them that I wanted to cancel the order. They responded saying no problem and I should see the funds back in the bank in the next 3 to 5 days. Fingers crossed.
What really concerned me was this case was well hyped before release but once they started accepting orders things became shady about when it would ship and there was absolutely no coverage on the case at CES, Macworld, or any of the sites that report on news or review iPad related products. I thought I maybe missed something, but the nail in the coffin for me was when I read an article talking about all the iPad cases at Macworld and there was no mention of the clamcase.

I can't believe you let it go for THAT long.

New app purchases are better than a lobotomy when it comes to preventing violent outbursts. Well, unless those purchases are tied to some kind of full MIDI support expectations.
But I don't know if that alone will hold back my anger if the advertised spring release date of the iCade turns out to be another lie. I already have an alter space set up for it on the bar.

I realized *HORROR* that I never got a chance to gloat over the death of the Lemur.
GLOAT.
One can rationalize all day long about how the JazzMutant chaps got lured away by vast sums of money or got tired or whatever.
But we know the truth, don't we?
The iPad killed the Lemur.
Thank you.

^ i would tend to think their pricing scheme killed the Lemur.
the iPad just proved what you already knew - it doesn't need to be that expensive.
companies that start off raking in all the niche market mullah need to learn that once the niche starts growing... prices come down. its a matter of survival at some point. Apple get that. JazzMutant, not so much. greed and the inability to let go of the past have brought more than one company to its knees.

Read that the Motorola Xoom pad costs $800 (there's no lower versions unlike the iPad) AND you have to sign up for 3G connectivity even if you just want to use wifi.
WTF are they thinking?

Could be.
But it's not the thread for those with low self-esteem issues because posts made may or may not be responded to. But it's nothing personal. We just blabber on randomly about the iPad.
