Dude, think your missing the point here - for me at least.
You are thinking in material terms. Consider for a moment, that the physical universe you experience with your senses, and that can be measured with scientific instruments, is but a fraction of the true reality... that there are dimensions/planes which we cannot knowingly experience directly in our everyday reality.

The idea of God is different for different cultures... the western/Christian personification of God is, for me just a tool for control, a big brother image, watching our every move, punishing "bad" and rewarding "good".

For me (my personal view) God is just a way of describing the universal conciousness, the One which we are all part of. In that sense we are all God... just an individual expression of the whole.

I could go on about this but i'm @ work!!

as to what there was before the big bang. who cares. certainly no god dude walking around.

use your imagination i can come up with a few nice ideas that are no less or more 'provable' than your GOD hypothesis.

i'd rather believe in super aliens that created our universe. aliens meaning they themselves being the result of a gradual process of natural selection.

my system is way more powerfull than your god. your god is weak.

if i speak of god i dear spek of god as the universe and even beyond that. god for me isn't a concious force or something with a will or guided ordering powers.

the god i speak of is nothing compared wirth your lunatic mindtwist that dominated men thousands of years.

we have alteratives now that more elegantly describe nature as it is as close to the truth as possible. god thinking is useless and a waste of precious time. god hypothesis won't help cure cancer, science will. why? because it lets people search for the TRUTH with a simple set pf rules guidelines. the results of just 200 yers western science are way more mindboggling than fucking 4000 year old god praising rituals that have ZERO purpose. or at most a placebo effect.

You missed the point, it's a 'praise indicator'. If someone says "how could god NOT have created the heavens and the earth? They're so wonderful and so is god! Then insert FSM, or Zeus, or Buddha, or Vishnu... I find it to be a great indicator of the nature of a 'god statement.' Flowery imagery or actual logic. As for helping people, millions of atheists love that movement.

The Torah isn't a history, science or psychology book (though it has many of those elements). Rabbis have always approached Torah as p'shat (basic meaning) and drash (deeper meaning) and hence, there's incredible layers of meaning and mystical ideas behind the seemily "inconsistent" and incomprehensible portions of the Bible.

i do not agree, big bang is te most probable event to explain bckground radiation. the idea of the universe being the result of an expansion of a singulaity is an elegant one and the most probable. were i do absolutely NOT agree is the fact that this event must be seen as 'an act of a creator'. there is absolutely no evidence or even hinting that a CREATOR is needed to produce the big bang..
