Yes, made it listenable to people that weren't minimal elitist wankjobs and DJs.3phase wrote: rearranging 18 year old classic technotracks brought techno any further???? sorry.. I preffer the originals...
Most people i know do.
Sorry if that offends you, but techno is full of that kind of mentality. Scion made BC more accessible for the home listener, and that is a GOOD thing.
Brought further ... if an album's worth of sine basses, pathetic weedy kicks, endless clicks and undercomposed melodies is bringing techno further? No, just no. "A great album to test subwoofers" is not a reason to put it on a pedestal and say it pushes techno further, if you believe the bass content is reason enough to rate it so highly then I question your objectivity. (Robert Babicz, on the other hand, does a fairly good job of "minimal".)3phase wrote:I heard Ricardos Harem Archim. in bars that usualy never play techno... That actually brought techno further...
And its a great album to test Subwoofers
Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
robert Babicz is a nice guy but his version of techno is not realy something i havent have heard in the 90´s allready..chis wrote:[pushes techno further, if you believe the bass content is reason enough to rate it so highly then I question your objectivity. The Au Harem de archimeds actualy is a style i havent heard in the 90´s... its well produced.. sensefull and deep.
It has sold more than most tech albums in the last decade without even trying to feed the cheesy trance or overcome hardcore cliches...
i question your musical knowledege and expertise

Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
You actually enjoy listening to albums consisting entirely of 4/4 kicks, clicks and production tricks? Fair enough, but I fall asleep after 20 seconds of that shit.3phase wrote: i question your musical knowledege and expertise
90% of electronic music producers can't write melodies worth a damn anyway... Villalobos is one of them.
Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
Afaik Ricardo has one of the best equiped studios in Berlin and is ihmo one of the most innovative producers of nowadays techno music thus I would never call him nitwit.
But I also know the 'Ableton Live Engine' from inside and I can just say that it is at least as digital and neutral as competitors, everything else would be a bug
It always depends on what you do with your tool, not on the tool itself.
Just my 2 cents,
matthias

I'm offended - what's wrong with excellence, unique vision and inaccessibility. Why should basic channel be made more accessible for home listeners- I say home listeners should make an effort to connect with the weird groovevoid created by Basic Channel.
I am not interested in hearing Scion - remixing 18 year old tracks is about as far from progress as I can imagine PLUS the words 'accessible for home listening' are a real turn off, however Ricardo Villalobos is building up an extraordinary body of work that is functional, moving and endlessly fascinating.
I am now going to dismantle my personality, erase all the aspects of my being that don't fit in with homogenised, market driven social norms and become more accessible to the maximalist unwankjob majority. Its a GOOD thing.
Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
Okay, fine. Apologies for not realising this forum was just as knee deep in (dub) techno elitists as those over at Discogs. I'll not bother in future because I'm already well aware how stubbornly elitist people like you are.
Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
you two should post tracks to see which is better. I'd love to hear some good tunes. same with this Villalobos guy. one track of his was posted, I thought it was crap. too much talk, not enough music.

Yeah that's right.
Nice one-I was about to kick off as well - elitism is one of my trigger words
Re: Villalobos hating on Ableton
how is this story going down on non-Ableton fanboy sites? of course he's going to get slammed here, what are the other forums saying? are people agreeing with him or what?

^ it depends whether the other forums are frequented by those that can discern the difference between audio engines and their code.
